Am I out of touch?

Hah! Both of you guys. Right on.

I try, oh I try but it rarely works. "Oh, hey look at that! I need it!" two days later "OK, no more guns...lets sell some"

Apart from that, to touch on other points in the thread, sure there are some cheap/budget rifles available today that are not particularly well made....but while I appreciate fine wood and nice bluing etc, a lot of rifles today are still "well made", objectively.

People might not ENJOY it but its hard to argue that the craftsmanship of say a Tikka, is not great.

Aside from being nice to look at and pride of ownership a nice wood stock holds no practical appeal to me. It isn't doing anything better than good synthetic will/does.

I am lol

Try a Ruger American. If you can get past the "feels cheap" aspect, you're good to go. Will admit seeing the groups they shoot are a great help with that.

Can't be well made ;)

Yeah, they're rough. yeah, you see tooling/machining marks on em. Don't care when shooting.

Bit light for me in a 308, mind. But the 223, 7.62x39 and 6.5 CM are absolute hammers. And they seem tough enough

When I see a used rifle listed for 'Retail' price I consider how much Tax would be saved - and how many rounds fired. I don't expect someone to take a beating just because they didn't like the gun, but 500 rounds is used ... not 'as new'.

On another site - seriously

1963 Model 94 that was listed for $2500 but now reduced to $2000. Several photos - these are just 2 of them. Mind you the receiver is nicely engraved and both sides of the butt stock is scraped up a bit as well as missing the rear site elevator all adding to its antiquity and value (I guess)

What is it? Over priced? Joke? Typo?

If this is selling for $2000 I have a couple that should list for at least $3000 or maybe even $3500. :)

Prices are driven by what people are ready to pay… you may ask for a certain price And it won’t sell and you think it’s a deal or you may think your price is on the hight side and it sells in a matter of hours..
i had put a Ruger M77 MkII 30-06 blue walnut with scope and rings low round counts hunted but not abused for like around $900, it is a solid rifle with good accuracy and it didn’t sell…. I put up a vortex something something for the same price I paid for or maybe even a little more and it sold really fast! The right price is the price that one person is willing to spend!!

That fellow has no idea on pricing or marketing he just takes USA price and converts it to Canuck
He has not sold a gun and he has 10-15 listed
He is becoming a views collector
Some guys have 10,000 views on guns

I’ve bought and sold more firearms over the past 20 years than I’d like to admit!

Some of the prices I’m seeing for rifles in the EE these days seem very very high to me…
some prices are high, some are at market value and the stuff listed cheap doesn't last long.

When I list items for sale, I post as close to market value as possible (I gauge this by what my local gun store would ask on consignment for the same item)

I don't price my items to attract buyers who just intend to flip it for more, I target buyers who will be the end user.

Plenty of good deals to be had on the EE, and then there are some guys who’ve bumped their rifle for sale 30 times. Good deals move fast, overpriced pieces linger. This is the way…… and always has been!

When you see something you want that you feel is overpriced you can always make an offer. Or scroll right on by and forget about it within a minute or two, which is what I usually do. :)

If a person really shops around (on or off line), they can find a diamond in the rough for a fair price. I recently purchased two 30-06 rifles which were manufactured in 1965 and 1975. These rifles are truly underrated and undervalued, which hold superb quality in material and mechanics.

Ordinary rifles that people are asking over 2-3 times what I would consider a reasonable price. These aren’t collector pieces (despite what the ad may say) - run if the mill calibres such as 308 Win.

I would point some of the ads out but don’t want to over step etiquette.

I don't disagree with the OP, things do seem to be escalating at a remarkable rate. I think we're seeing a correction due to our low dollar value and the cost of living increase. Saw this in the early 80's with interest spikes.

Totally!! Everything cost more but we don’t make more, so when we try to get rid of stuff we try to get as much as we can! And sometimes it is ridiculous hahaha

The other issue is people are pretty quick on anything remotely reasonable in price. Kind of it’s own selection bias. You see a lot of ads with wild prices cause people aren’t touching them but if you sit on a decent deal on the EE it’s probably going to be gone when you make up your mind
