Switzers Auction Feb 10, 2022

Did everyone get distracted by food or something at the same time because I got the Mosin M39 for a pretty good price and no one bid above the online pre-bidding. Adding to my Finnish stable.

You mean the one with the “fair” bore? At this condition I wouldn’t call it a pretty good price, but hopefully it will work out for you. Enjoy.

Lol I missed that, we shall see.

I just looked again. Barrel is described as fair, but worn, lightly pitted and the rifle is mismatched. At $1300 plus fees and shipping you are looking at over $1500. I am afraid that nobody was distracted here really. That silence…during the bidding had some good reason. Anyway, have fun! These are nice and good shooting rifles.

Generally speaking, I was amazed at the prices realized for rifles that were cobbled bitsers.
In general, prices realized were very strong across the board.

When have M39s ever been matching numbers? My impression is the M39s were always cobbled together from older Mosins. I like this one because the wood stock and bluing appear to be original, it's got a Tikka "D" profile barrel and is from 1941. I want something that would represent a rifle issued at the time.

There are many matching ones out there. In fact usually the bolts are matching on M39's. The floorplate were also matched from the factory on wartime M39's, but most no longer have their original floorplate. Not having the matched floorplate isn't that big of a deal, having it is more of a little bonus, but having a mismatched bolt does reduce the value. Personally, I prefer original matching on the Finnish built Mosins, but to each his own.

Thanks for the info, I'll compare it with my unissued M39 at some point in a thread.

Damn you got those cheap! Nice score. I totally would have gone for one of those rem700 lots if I realized this auction was happening. Never finished a stock but for that price I'd be willing to try!

Maybe Ontario.
I know that a lot of the collector ammunition in that last several sales was from Alberta.
