That's what I thought too. Wouldn't that be a bit odd, tromping about in rubble with thin moccasin boots??The soldier with the Sten looks like he's wearing a pair of LL Bean boots.

In the end, it really is a funny way to treat a returning “victorious” General, and the facts should speak for themselves, yet somehow with Castro’s death it will be washed out with re-written history glorifying "Struggle" Heroes of the "Revolution".
There’s a movie on Netflix called The Siege of Jadotville…interesting movie-not sure how historically accurate it is but lots of action!
A soldier who was there told me it was like walking on a wet mattress.
Russian communist have done just that since 1905 revolution. Very few of 1905 veterans took part in 1917 revolution because they were dead. Many of 1917 vets were dead by 1930 and rest nearly wiped out by 1939. Soviet officers that went to Spanish Civil war? Most were not alive by June 1941.
That practice continued in most of communist countries after 1945. Vietnam is one exception that I heard of - war vets are still very much admired and remembered.
Great country for sheep though. Lots of lush tussok grass with abundant moisture.
