Initial Thoughts - GSG 16 vs Kriss Vector SBR 22

Finally got to the range with my GSG 16 with after market 9" barrel and my Kriss Vector SBR 22lr shorty.

The GSG feels much more like a toy than the Kriss. Very light and plastic like. The Kriss feels very solid and heavy and well made. I had high hopes and thought the Kriss was much better before I actually shot them both.

When my son and I shot them this is what we found:

GSG
- shot multiple ammo types
- very light and easy to move
- very accurate
- easy to sight in a red dot and shoot tight groups after that

KRISS
- very picky about ammo to the point it was annoying
- tried to sight in the reflex sight but it was too low and just made things more annoying.

I was very disappointed in the Kriss considering how much it cost compared to the GSG. However, I spent a lot on the GSG to upgrade it including the 9" barrel.

We had a lot of fun shooting the GSG and the Kriss just made us mad with all the fail to feed and fail to fire issues.

I do know I had a better red dot on the GSG which made it easier to sight in. I will get a better sight for the Kriss for our next shoot and will need to pay much better attention to what type of ammo it likes.

All in all, the GSG was very accurate and fun today. The Kriss was a major let down but I hope with a new sight and different ammo we will have a much better experience.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for posting - I think you're on the right track in making your Kriss work better for you. The GSG definitely has a reputation for feeling toy like, and the Kriss is the opposite.

Most semi auto 22LR are picky about ammunition, and when you find one that isn't it's a nice surprise. Your Kriss might work perfectly well with several types of ammunition that you didn't happen to try, perhaps even with several types of bulk ammunition. You just won't know until you try, which is the major reason that my ammunition library has dozens of different types of 22LR.

The sight picture differences are easy to explain, and not just in terms of quality of the optics you bought. Every rifle/operator combination has an ideal sight height for a given optic. Sounds like the optic on your Kriss needs a riser, which is very common. Or get an optic with a taller dot-above-rail measurement.

Totally agree with you about the ammo and the higher sight/riser.

I am going to buy a much better quality red dot for the Kriss and will get the riser if need be. I also have many different types of ammo and only tried a few in the Kriss. I will bring a bunch of different types on the next outing. I have high hopes the Kriss will end up being just as fun as the GSG.

my kriss settled after a really good cleaning, and 600 rnds. It was picky with ammo and lots of problems first trip. it shoots reliably now. There was some weird sticky residue on the bolt etc from the factory. run an elcan on my, the thing is awesome. Give it some time.

Good to know. Thanks. I know my "review" was very early on and I will have patience.

I love my GSG 16, might eventually grab a Kriss, just to have one.

I get that the GSG feels like a toy, but I'm fine with that, as for me, that's just what it is, a fun little bangstick with a bit of tacticool. I even like the buttstock, despite how maligned it is. It also was the gun that turned my wife from a "not really liking guns" person to a "wow I feel llike such a badass" person.

Just got a Sparc 2 for the Kriss so we shall see how she does on my next range visit.
