Now thats dead ###y right there.....I have two 7 SAUM being put together at Garys right now !

Buckmaster you have some seriously cool guns, even the remingtons :dancingbanana:

I bet Gary Flach’s phone is ringing off the hook…

There’s a 7 mag titanium in buckmastrs safe that makes me feel funny, like climbing the rope in gym class.

Bucky those matching model 70s are sweet!

Nothing really, just something different, I love my 280AI as its what I hunt with mostly so the 7 SAUM mirrors it.

I applaud your honesty lol

Just wondering because there was a thread recently where a guy was building one.

Slimbo that is borderline heretical; for your penance you must suggest a CRF rifle in all “what rifle for X” threads next hunting season

It's to bad that Winchester Model 70 LA parts are so hard to find
Got another one on the go for Gary to finish and stock work

Talking about Gary, I’m waiting for an old Mauser 98 in 8x57 that he did some minor work on for me, replace a double set trigger that was missing the set trigger for a new assembly, modified the bolt handle from a regular/stock round knob to a beautiful butter knife handle, checked head space….. I am working on the stock right now, putting a cross bolt behind the recoil lug and stripping it to refinish it and hopefully find the right tools to refresh the grip checkering! I also ordered a low swing Timney safety and will order some nice classic red recoil pads(some cause I want one for a Ruger No.1). The rifle is from my dad he bought it when he was 16 and he is now 80, it is a military rifle that was really nicely sporterized and the stock fit and finish to the barrelled action is immaculate!! It is an awesome “English Stalking rifle”!!

I had Gary build me one on a Kimber 8400 action, Wildcat Vartac stock, IBI CF Barrel, it was a nice gun shot well but a little heavy for my liking, the fellow that bought it is making great use of it, this last fall he had some success hunting with it and was very happy.

A "build" and a "custom" are two different things.

Bolt a few parts together and you now have a build. There are lots of guys that can do very good work at this and give you a very good rifle. I do not diminish in any way the work these folks do. I have a few, the latest being a trued up 700 in a Grayhoe Outlander with JC bbl in 6CM topped with a Sightron S-TAC 4-16.

OTOH .... There are only a few true custom gunsmiths who can create a fully custom gun from the ground up included fabricating the metal work, engraving, inletting walnut with all associated finishing required to make a rifle like that and have the eye to bring it all together and make it a classic.

Wheatherby Fan

Those are some seriously nice builds you've posted, you've now have me re-thinking direction on my current build after seeing the ones you've shared here. Kudos sir.

So where does this leave the specialist? I know stock makers that outclass guys that can do both. Metal guys the same. Is anything in a synthetic stock just a build? Did that synthetic stock just happen? What about a fancy wood stock on factory metal?

Guns love killing. They don’t care who built them or what’s in a name.
