Picture of the day

It is sad to see such a hateful ridiculous comment aimed at an organization that Putin is afraid of on a website designed specifically for people
who enjoy some use of firearms. I don't think that all of our Canadians who served with the UN forces feel that way. Some of them enjoy the
use of this site for information and should not to be called criminals. They volunteered for their own reasons and its not up to me to judge them.
I don't think this site is the place for red neck radical views espoused by the ignorant. This thread was supposed to be picture of the day to
illustrate and educate facts, not political opinions. Try not to wander off base. JOHN

Chechen armed forces under control of Kadyrov. Reports of Russia deploying them to Ukraine.

The Kadyrov's were a major part of the Resistance against the Russians, but they sold out. In order to end the Chechen wars Putin basically gave them the entire province to run however they liked, just as long as they turned on their comrades, ended the insurgency and kept Chechnya quiet from then on.

Now Kadyrov runs it as his private fiefdom, part dictatorship, part organised crime, part Islamic state.

Ukrainian forces after looting Russian SF vehicles that entered Kharkiv, 2022.

You do what you have to do.

Why would they leave it behind so the Russians can reclaim or worse, the bandit groups that seem to form during every such altercation??

That's some of the clean stuff.

You can bet what they loot from bodies and shot up vehicles isn't so pretty but it still will get the job done.

I'm surprised there aren't any Heavy Machine Guns or even Light Machine guns in that mix.

Likely from supply trucks that were hit??????

I had never heard of the Trench of Bayonets until I read about this in an older Legion magazine:

"In 1916, the nine-month battle of Verdun claimed over 300,000 lives, and left more than 300,000 wounded.

The field of battle is today marked by the Verdun Memorial. The most chilling place in this eerie landscape is by far the so-called “Trench of Bayonets.”

In June 1916, this entrenched position was a part of Fort Douaumont, which the Germans desperately wanted to take. On June 12, Germans unleashed a hailstorm of iron and lead upon French positions. The attack caught the French by surprise.

The 137th Regiment of French infantry was annihilated almost to the last man. Years after the war, French teams exploring the battlefield uncovered the first clues of the horrific fate of this regiment. One of the trenches was discovered completely filled in, with only a neat line of bayonets sticking out of the ground. The bayonets were still fixed to their rifles. A body was found next to each one. Under relentless bombardment, the soldiers had been effectively buried standing up, perhaps even while they were still alive.

Or so the story goes. Today, historians believe that a great deal of myth-making influenced the eventual construction of the Trench of Bayonets monument, which was built by an American patron. In reality, it’s unlikely that the soldiers were buried alive in the manner typically described by this common myth. What’s indisputable is that both French and German forces lost a huge number of lives during this battle."

Idiotic and ignorant comment: tens of thousands of soldiers were buried alive by shell fire. Some were dug out, some were dug out alive, and some were never seen again. Anyone familiar with the memoirs of WWI soldiers would know this this fact.

I’ve been trying to keep up on all the YouTube videos of the conflict. Am I the only one that is scratching my head in regards to how the Ukrainians are managing to destroy so much Russian equipment? I know they have all the trapping of a modern force but seeing lines of destroyed transports and armor leaves me wanting to know how? Well placed artillery thanks to Western-provided situational awareness? Large amounts of man-portable rockets? Anyone care to speculate?

It’s easier to defend than it is to attack… also, the Ukrainians had 8 years to prepare and been preparing for the last few months.

Smartphones make communication instantaneous. Metro spots some tanks. He calls the police, The police calls the military. Etc, etc. There are “eyes” everywhere.

ambushes,

Russians are confined to the roads as the ground has thawed so they are easy to canalize into prepared kill zones, chew up the light armoured vehicles with medium/heavy MGs and armour gets a missile. Hide a BMP or BRDM in defilade with a 30mm cannon and your going to lay a hurting on whoever wanders into the kill zone. let the lead elements in then slam the door by destroying the middle of the column, force the rear to retreat and regroup while you kill the rest of the lead elements.

resupply from the damaged and destroyed vehicles.

Makes perfect sense given the burned out trucks but what really got me was the armor being completely ripped open in a lot of the footage. You’d think a hefty amount of explosives would be needed for that. Unless it’s a result from secondaries within the vehicle.

The Russians certainly seem to be paying the price.
