Recommendations on new longer range hunting rifle

hmm, never heard of these guys. Look interesting for sure though. I'm getting into a 300 PC.

These are the guys that have been making the Edge model rifles for Fierce Firearms in the USA.

I've got a Fierce Carbon Edge in 6.5 PRC, I like it a lot, its one of the few guns that I've felt I don't have to change anything yet.

Basically what I ordered from Antler. What does it like for ammunition?

Mine is shooting 156EOL's with retumbo very good and factory Hornady 147 match.....what taxes did you have to pay. just 5% or the Quebec Tax as well?

Nice. Can’t find EOL’s anywhere. So far found some 127gr LRX’s and 150gr Accubonds. No just GST as I’m from Alberta. Not sure how it works for provinces with their own extra taxes.

Yes, did a bit more reading on them. I've been eyeing a Fierce carbon Rival lately. I sent an inquiry to Antler looking for specific info on their carbon mountain in 300 PRC. Didn't see any info on twist rates, internal mag length, which trigger.

I just did the same but for 28 Nosler and 338 Lapua....fierce shows 8.5 and 10 respectively.

I expect the Antler to be same.

Did you ever hear back?

Brother ordered an x-bolt mountain 6.8 western with 7.5" twist for long range hunting, the rifle came in but could be a while before he gets ammo for it. Nice paperweight though.

Well my Antler Arms Rocky Mountain in 6.5 PRC with the LR stock came in this week. Can’t wait to get it out next weekend to break in. Installed a Leupold VX6HD 3-18x44 Firedot duplex reticle in Low Leupold Backcountry aluminum rings. Rifle naturally has 20moa built into the mounts. Have a MTN carbon fibre bipod from NZ on it too. 98537A16-3929-41C8-94DF-0DB6B8E79A14.jpg

I'm interested to see what you think of this Cletus. I have been debating placing an order with them but for some reason I'm stuck on a 20" 7mm-08 and they don't seem terribly keen on chambering anything in that particular caliber. If I hear enough solid feedback I may have to settle with a 6.5...

Oh, and if by chance you ever have the stock off I would really be interested to see what it weighs with the adjustable comb.

When I weighed it with no scope or rings, magazine in. It was 7 lbs 0.3oz That’s .4 lbs heavier than advertised but I had them add the bipod rail and the Mountain LR stock is different from the Monty Carlo it’s supposed to come with. Smaller caliber barrels generally weigh more too. But I haven’t taken the action out of the stock

I looked into these as well at one point. I’d be curious on a range report and what you think of fit and finish on the rifle.

Fit and finish is excellent. Test target shows it meets their 1/2 moa guarantee using Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr eldx. Now to see what I can make for a load for it. 3A93E1E8-E47C-4056-80EA-07D1A72256AE.jpg

Bit late to the party. My advice would be to try and build a very accurate all round rifle, something that is not a finicky diva. The best rifles I had so far were mostly in 308 cal. I know most will say they don't go over 800yds.... drops are huge as well as huge wind drift... but it is so easy to get a 308 to shoot well which is half the battle. I have several other rifles with higher bc that beat my 308's on paper but then some of them I would need to test first if the weather suits the load etc. What worked for me was to go to one of our FTR rifle builders and see what barrels they had lying around. The fashion in FTR had just changed from 1/13 twist to 1/10, 1/9 twist and I managed to get my hands on two 1/13 twist barrels. One Bartlein med palma which went on an old rem 700 action and a Lija 3 groove of similar weight that went on a T3 action. I could not tell which of the two was more accurate. Both ended up at 20" and I shot them out to a bit over 800m. Shot deer to 500yds. Mainly used 168gr.
I still think the most important part of a rifle is the barrel, second most important is the bedding, third the action. We build stocks and I let our bedding guy do the bedding as he does that every day. Next thing I swear by is to put a heavy scope on a rifle, most rifles shoot better with a heavy scope. Good optics helps.
The 20" 308 Bartlein barrelled rifle went to a local guy who is starting PRS. He managed a forth place at a comp and in one comp he was the only one to have a first round hit at the 930m target. He is using factory ammo. He just bought another one of my rifles, a T3 in 6.5CM with a Hawk Hill barrel. After a few years trying out the 6.5cm in two rifles I am ready to build a 308 with a good barrel again.

Nice to see that made it before the 18th. Didn't seem to take too long.

You pushing some of those Berger 156 down range?

Have a few things to try.

Finally got to take it out. Definitely a shooter. Made loads of near max LRT and Nosler 140gr RDF for fireforming the brass and was getting sub MOA. First try at 600 yards on the steel plate was definitely a success. Now to tune a proper hunting load. 1E8DB209-5F33-42A6-8931-479205476547.jpg3206B72D-E126-4503-AD95-0D16C393DE2F.jpg7810EC2D-02C4-4006-AF19-1182AF16F63A.jpg
