Hey guys,

Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of another Norwegian Krag project I recently finished up. This in an 1894 Long Krag that was sporterized by having the stock cut back and the handguard removed. However, by some stroke of luck, the barrel with the front sight and bayonet lug was not altered. That made it a great candidate for a restoration.

I was fortunate enough to find a full length stock with handguard and a few other small items through various milsurp forums. The milsurp collectors everywhere are such a helpful bunch! It's a total mixmaster of parts but at least it's in its intended configuration. The Norwegian Krags are fairly scarce and you don't see many examples out in the wild so it was a worthy and fun project.

very nice final result on your Krag, congrats!
exactly same thing I've done some years ago with one of my favorite ENFIELD 1917 Eddystone, restored 99% to the original

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Del3840, feel free to PM me with any questions. I can tell you that a Norwegian Krag in 308 is most likely something made by Globe Firearms back in the day. I would be very hesitant to use factory ammo in it - the pressures are higher than what the rifle was designed for. If you're a reloader then you can make up some low pressure loads for it. As for a replacement bolt - try Numrich in the US. I'm not sure if they can ship it across the border but they'll let you know all the details.

Nice job! We were VERY fortunate to find a replacement stock, handgard and fittings. It's very satisfying when you do that after a worldwide search.

Another one is back in the fold.

Krags are my favorite action, so smooth. Mind you I end with US Springfield units...30-40 fits my hunting style better anyhow.
OP, very nice work...better than I could do

I've got a sporterized 6.5 Krag lying at home that I'm trying to restore, and I was wondering whether one of you could help me troubleshoot a problem with it: Whenever I load more than three rounds into the side door, the door refuses to close all the way. There's a roughly 3-4mm gap opening. When the magazine is empty, it closes flush. Any idea which part I need to fix/replace?

Wallaback - can you load, cycle and chamber a single round? Use a dummy round to be safe! You want to be sure there is no hidden blockage within the magazine itself. If you can't then look for anything in the magazine that may be preventing the rounds from moving freely. Clean out any rust or crud in the mag. Also, if you can't cycle a round then check the spring and follower - it is possible someone at one point tried to replace them with US Krag parts but they are not interchangable. Another possibility would be the magazine cut off lever - there are three or four variations depending on the manufacturing date. The incorrect one may cause the rounds to jam up - try removing the lever and load, cycle and chamber a few dummy rounds and see if that works. Let us know how you make out!

Snow Dog - The rifle can cycle and chamber just fine - I can even fit five rounds into the magazine and they will all chamber perfectly. The only odd thing that happens is that the side door doesn't close flush with more than three rounds (it fixes itself once I'm back down to three) - I'm trying to figure out where in the mechanism spring pressure could be pressing against the door, but I can't quite figure it out!

Stab in the dark: could it be that the magazine spring itself is somehow loose a little bit? It's quite possible it could shift a bit and cause a feeding issue. Could it be a replacement spring versus factory original?
Example, a K98 Mauser with a loose spring often allows only 4 rounds in the original magazine versus 5.

perhaps??
