What's the future for 7.62x39 and SKS in Canada with recent events?

Today I called a very large reputable online retailer and they told me that my Barnaul order was cancelled because all of their Barnaul inventory was water damaged and suggested to switch my order for Norinco. I asked it it really was non corrosive and they told me yes but they also strongly suggested I clean the rifle right away after shooting it. That speaks volumes if you ask me.

What i've read here (never tested myself) was that white box norinco is corrosive but red box isn't

Anyone have a real world (aka nail test) example of this?

I shot red box 9 months ago and didn't clean my sks since. Looks exactly as clean and rust free as when I brought it to the range.

I have shot the Norinco white box for years and never had never noticed any rust. I have heard though, that people have experienced the odd batches of the white box bought from a large retailer being corrosive. I have not had such experience myself.

Someone had a thread recently about recent white box being corrosive … in the past, it’s been said, treat all Chinese 7.2x39 and 7.62x54R as corrosive … seems prudent as there are too many threads on N.C. Having some corrosive mixed in.

There we will always be some American brass 7.62x39, but will people pay for it? People still love the Lee Enfield even if the ammo is expensive … people will still collect the SKS, it just might sit in the safe more often.

It really is NC. Funny how untrusting gun nutz can be.

Maybe you should pay more attention. There have been multiple examples where the importer and numerous retailers swore that various batches of ammo where nc and yet they weren't and many people's rifles were subsequently ruined. You go ahead be naive and careless but don't complain when one of your rifles is ruined becuae of your ignorance.

We can forever kiss our Ladas and beloved corrosive Russian ammo goodbye, with our leader rattling defense spending increases, and then banning anything we can afford. The Chinese will then take higher profits as a result, so expect higher ammo prices, that keep going up. Anybody that fancies themselves as a cheapskate, take warning, and buy all you can right now. Otherwise the cheapskate in you, will turn itself into a spendthrift, hated by wives all over the world.

This is the truth. Couple years ago I would hmm and haww about prices I can only dream about now... by summer, I'll be glad I spent now.
