VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Just curious what type of accuracy the Wolverine imported one has versus the Marsters non-restricted.
I'm aware of the Gremlins. I read all of the posts ;)

The chrome lined are milspec at 2 and a half inches at 100 yds iffn u get an unworn bore. The wolverine CZ's have new manufactured non chrome bores (probably the cz bolt action 7.62x39 barrels off the production line) - much more accurate - mine shoots 1/4 to 1/2 inch at a hundred. The non chrome bores wear quickly iffn u pour 30 rds thru em non stop without cooling. Iffn u wanna spray an pray get chrome - iffn u wanna do head shots at 200 get the CZ 858.

taking it apart

Hi, I got the free black furniture with my new cz 858 but I cant figure out how to take out the handguard. So, how do i take out the lower handguard, and the upper wood part from the metal part??? going crazy here.

lower HG: drive out the pin and then tap the HG down with a hammer if stubborn.

upper HG: hold metal and rotate the presto wood , rotate it either direction.

Ugly

Well i finally got my black stock and hand guard on and damn their ugly... they were on for 1 minute and came right off....nothing like the good old wood, looks sharp, original and even more anti-lib.

Accurizing The Cz 858

I have been doubted about my 858's ability to shoot under 1/2 inch at a hundred , but I assure all it's true. There are witnesses at the dale who have seen me do it. Here's how -

Use J B bore paste to polish the bore , and use it frequently to make sure no copper is in the bore. The scout scope mount should be shimmed on the sight block (each side and the top so it slides on tight , then locktite the screws). The muzzle brake must be tight - 12 wraps of plumbers teflon tape around the threads is the easiest way. The forend must be epoxy bedded for consistent pressure on the gas block ferrule. This is easily done by the appropriate diameter brass rod epoxied in the bottom and side gaps at the rear of the lower forend where it meets the receiver. This will exhert consistent even pressure on the gas block ferrule. If you have the INFRATEK forend experiment with the locking screw tension that accomplishes the same result. Tighter means groups print higher - to tight means horizontal stringing.Just a little past snug seems the best for me.Grease the trigger sear and squeeze real slow when shooting. The lousy trigger is a killer of small groups. Use a bubble level on the gun for consistent hold on your bench rest. I use WOLF hollow points but have had good results with corrosive surplus as well by weighing each round with a digital powder scale , batching them then batching them again with a caliper by over all length. Shoot the same weight and same O.A.L. together. Some lengths shoot better than others depending on your 858's throat.Rest the rifle on the receiver NOT the forend ! Shoot without the mag.
Thats all there is to it -;)

very interesting... and have YOU tried this method with a vz58L and compared the results?

Have done 2 858's - havent bothered with the chrome bores cause all the ones I shot were not as accurate as the 858's but I'm sure the technique will work for them also

Very interesting efforts. I think that you are flogging a dead horse though. If you were working for a sniper or target grade rifle, thats what you should have bought. Kind of pointless shooting it as a single shot without the mag in it just to achieve a higher degree of accuracy. It defeats the purpose of the guns design. Interesting efforts just the same. Cheers.

I have sniper rifles - was just testing the accuracy potential of the 858 - A cheap assault rifle . And it does shoot under half inch with the mag - its just easier on the bald eagle rest without the mag. I do like the idea of a lightweight 762x39 that can do apricot shots at 200 yds. - Only accurate rifles are interesting :)

2nd Line for the CZ 858/VZ 58

Not to change the subject or anything but...I just got my 858 and am wondering what kind of gear guys are using with theirs. I was interested in the Eagle Industries AK rig but they're all tied up with contracts and I don't think I can wait six months. It's kinda being turned into my SHTF blaster and when the zombies come I don't wanna be "that guy" with mags stuck in my jeans.

Let's see some of your rigs!:ar15:

Im sure this question has been asked before but i dont have the patience to read through 305 pages of posts. Will putting a folding stock on my CZ-858 or a VZ-58L turn it into a restricted firearm. Im at work and want to order a folding stock and dont have the gun to measure.
