Started a Gen 2 build. Still have a few things to fo with it but my current progress.

Can you weight the rifle with the setup in the picture? I'm curious how much the gen 2 upper increased in weight from the charging handle.

Also do you think if the charging handle plate can be extended to cover the entire opening on the left side?
 
It's definitely lighter than the Gen 1. It's a possibility but would take some engineering of a collapsible piece. I can't get a picture of the weight as the only scale I have is a bathroom scale and it won't register anything under 25lbs but it is much lighter than the Gen 1.

This is a big surprise to me. I had initially dismissed the gen 2 upper due to preceived increase in weight and lack of completely covered left side. Maybe I need to take a hard 2nd look at it.

For the cover, simply make a longer piece that protrude when handle is fully pulled back. This is how xcr designed their handle.

Great looking rifle by the way.

The Sterling R18 has an extended handle cover plate that protrudes behind the receiver on charging, like the XCR. Perhaps True North Arms can make a full length replacement, or one of the entrepreneurs who made WK brass deflectors can craft a clip on extension?

Step on bathroom scales and read your weight. Then pick up rifle while standing on scales and read total weight. Subtract your weight. I find bathroom scales aren't the most accurate when measuring lighter weights but once you add your own weight and get it up there a bit you can add a few more pounds (the rifle) and then do the math and you get a much more accurate measurement of the lighter weight item. Still won't get as accurate of a weight measurement as you would on a smaller digital scale but it will get you in the ballpark.

Also curious about the length of pull with that buttstock? It looks great with it.

Also am I correct that they have finally moved to a mid length gas port location instead of the carbine length of the original?
 
Hopefully someone can do a field-strip pictures or video, so we can see how well the gas block is secured and things like the piston length.
 
I like the stock, it looks good. What kind is it? I'm patiently waiting on my pre-order. I have a little collection of parts to install once it's finally in my hands.
 
This is merely were I am at right now for my build. I have parts to make and the gun to paint and a few more parts to buy but so far I like how it is coming together.
 
So, aside from the Kodiak enhanced Lower Receiver and the Charging Handle that still doesn't cover the cocking slot, are there any internal improvements to the operating system? Did they go with a 2-part piston to alleviate breakage? What about the Gas Block position - still "Carbine"? Or did they improve it by relocating the Block to Mid or Rifle-length? Improved ergonomics are all well and good, but if the basic reliabiity has not been enhanced and the frequent parts breakage addressed, then V.2. is a bust IMHO. All "show" and no "go", so to speak...

Comparing pictures of the Gen 1 and Gen 2 it looks like the gas blocks are in the same position (just comparing them in relation to the Mlok slots on the handguards). Curious to see how these hold up and run, really want to love them.
