I said I was going to resist buying a 6.5 CM, but Bullseye offered such a smoking deal on a rifle/scope combination that I caved.

It is a Howa [Legacy Sports model] with a sub MOA guarantee. Comes with a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10 x 40 CDS, in Leupold bases &
rings. Unit looks pretty nice, overall. Checked the trigger pull - 2¾ lbs, and consistent. 3 position safety. Twist: 1 - 8"
Also came with a muzzle brake, but I screwed it off and installed the supplied cap. Barrel is 22"

So, my question to all those who load for the 6.5CM, what have you found works for you? I would be particularly interested in
loads using IMR or H 4350, IMR 4451, Alliant Reloder 17 & 19, or Vihtavuori N150 and 550.

Thanks in advance, Dave.

H4350 41.1

Hornady brass
140 Berger VLDH

Both at 2700-2710 fps. ELDx is close to pressure, Berger is not. ( remember this is in my rifle so work up. ) Shoots 1/2 moa. with some 5 shot groups down to .7”@300 meters.

H4350 is the standard, but other good fuels are RL16, RL17, Win760, H414, StaBALL, N555, Ramshot Hunter, IMR 4451

Cadex CDX-30 6.5CM (28” Kreiger 1:8”)

140gr Berger Hybrid Target
Lapua brass (LRP), CCI BR2 primers, 44.0gr IMR4350
Fire formed headspace (Whidden tool): 1.5220”
CBTO measurement (Hornady comparator): 2.239“ (.010” jump)
2905fps (@22c)

This load makes the mile in decent conditions.

IMR 4350 - old school

I have used IMR 4350 too. Works excellent. If I recall the cartridge was designed around the use of the 4350 powder speed.

Never tried the H variety as some have sworn is the best. I went with RL16 and never had to try anything else.

So what? Does that mean it is a bad choice. Really… I would like to know. And not just because I don’t walk the red carpet and have as much knowledge as people like todbartell.

If it’s such a big deal, why does it work?

It's a little more temp sensitive then the H version, burns a bit dirty, if it works it works, don't sweat it.
Powders made today are not the same powders from the 1940's, that was kind of a pointless point mentioned for no reason I can understand either.
