Semi-auto CETME Modelo A

Probably waiting to see who their new masters will be, and how weak or strong the government will be.

Of course they are - they probably messed themselves when they knew they had no grounds to ban it. If we get another term of the Canadian branch of the Communist Party of Canada, they'll be able to call the PMO and tell them they need to ban this and any other rifle they think looks bad.

For anyone that is still following, I emailed the RCMP asking for the status since it has been well beyond the 120 business day timeline that they quoted me. This is what I received back from them today:

"Good morning,

Unfortunately there is no update for you at this time. I also regret to inform you that the “120 business days“ turn-around time is no longer feasible or achievable.

Your inspection has not been forgotten, and you will receive an email when an update is available.

Sorry for the inconvenience."

Since you are the owner of the information involving your licenses, you could always file a sweeping ATIP regarding the whole project/firearm, or specifically your company(ies), business license, the firearm in question, a file or whatever identification system they provided. The requests are free under the Privacy act since you are the owner of the information

Pm me if you want help with that

When i filed two separate times under the CFC the files contained surnames and sometimes full names of employees who worked on or looked at my files, stores who ran checks etc

And yet they can ban a bolt-action rifle for looking somewhat like an AR. You are being played.

“Good morning,

We are incompetent and could easily classified this in and hour as non-restricted, but we are lazy and politically motivated to screw over as many Canadian gun owners and businesses as humanly possible.

Your inspection has been forgotten, and won’t be addressed until we can easily call it prohibited without you having any ability to object.

#### you for wasting our time and we hope you’re miserable.”

I’d very much like to be wrong, but in our current political situation, a fair and just review and classification is unfortunately unlikely. I do hope I am wrong though.

On a more positive note, this would be a sweet new firearm to have. I very much like “old world” rifles and Cold War armaments.

I saw the thread got bumped, I got excited for news but all I get is sadness, although no news is better than bad news for now I guess

Thanks for the offer! I submitted an ATIP a few months ago requesting a list of what firearms are currently in queue for inspection at the RCMP SFSS lab. But the backlog/wait is currently at 12months for a return. I plan to submit ATIPs for the same thing every 3 months in order to see how often and how many inspections the RCMP SFSS lab does in a specific timeframe. I’ll make sure to post the ATIPs as I receive them for the other 6-7 people that actually care about this stuff haha.

Im gonna bump this and make everyone think somthing happened. Lol
No news on this over the past 5~6 months ?

Nothing at all. Will be at least another year and a half lol. And probably a year before I receive back the ATIP for a list of guns awaiting classification determinations, so at least we all can see what’s coming and what is next in queue. But if anyone uses armalytics, then any firearm with an FRT# that starts with a 19 was submitted in 2019. So until we start seeing some 20 prefix FRT numbers for commercial version rifles, it’s still a ways off.

However, the Cetme L should be coming out in a few months.

I planned to submit 1 commercial version rifle every year to the RCMP SFSS so it would make the waiting game less arduous. But I’m running a little behind on my next model I submit. Will probably be more like every 1.5years

Huh I never noticed that detail about the prefix in FRT numbers.
Boy I feel like an idiot lmao, if your CETME A gets approved do you have an idea of how big of a run you would do ?

Anything someone can do from a "supporter" or community level? Is it time, money or other support you need?

Haha, I just keep hoping the next commercial version gun that has a classification determination will have a 20 prefix, as then it means the Cetme A is just that much closer to being approved. And not sure about the quantity for the 1st run. The first steps would be to contact the manufacturer of Cetme C receiver stampings in the US and have them do a run of Cetme A stampings, and they’d obviously have a minimum order quantity (I can’t see this being any less than 1000qty). The next hurdle would be to convince a company like RCM in the US to do a run of 18.5” barrels. Because of the necessary chamber flutes, very very few barrel makers can do this, and none are located in Canada haha.

At this point, unfortunately no. All I need is just the free time to build it. I gathered the necessary parts & materials and I’ve designed, modelled and 3D printed all the necessary components and everything checks out. So at this point I just need to machine all of the designed parts, and assemble them all into a working rifle. If I had more free time there would probably be at least 3 or 4 firearms submitted to the rcmp on a yearly basis haha.

Motiuk how did you get into gunsmithing? I'm assuming this is more of a sidegig for you rather than a main job, so I'm wondering about the hurdles to get a business license and work on projects like this, even if it's just a hobby that happens to pay.

All self taught except for CNC machining. I wanted to learn / screw up on a schools expensive machine instead of my expensive machine haha. Luckily the regiment I was in at the time gave education bursaries so that ended up paying for my CNC classes. Traditional gunsmithing skills are gained through a ton of practice. And nowadays I think any gunsmiths should also have the ability to 3D model, 3D print and CNC machine, and luckily there are tons of videos out there where you can learn for free. The proper machines, tools and a place for them is very expensive, but is a lot cheaper than getting a 4-year degree, so you have to look at it from that angle. Practising traditional gunsmithing skills is relatively cheap. Tons of old wood stocks out there that you can purchase for cheap and practise checkering, finishing, bedding etc.

As far as licensing, search for Business Firearms Licence and do a ton of reading about the process and requirements. It’s a lengthy, arduous process and it costs ~$1000 per 3 years for a manufacturing licence that allows you to make restricted and non-restricted firearms. Well worth the effort and cost and I’d encourage as much people to do it as reasonable. There are a ton of “commercial version” firearms that have yet to be made that are “Canadian legal” for lack of a better term.

What are some other cool examples of guns that are theoretically “Canadian Legal” but have never been imported/manufactured/logged in the FRT?

-Semi-auto Uzi SMG. Has to be in SMG configuration and cannot copy the Model A method of semi-auto function
-Semi-auto L85.
-Semi-auto PK machine gun. Must be in PK configuration and not PKM configuration.
-Semi-auto FN 280 carbine. This model was the last model before the FAL.
-Semi-auto Howa Type 89

Just to name a few.
