well just set up my 550 and cant get the cases to turn to the next stage when i pull the handle done everything the book said to do

Pulling the handle doesn't advance the case to the next stage. You manually index with your left thumb (push forward on the 'star') This is after you 'pull the handle' to deprime and size the case, and after you 'push the handle' back up to insert a new primer. Before you advance the case to the next station you must release the handle back to the neutral position.

Hope this helps.

Forgive me for giggling away, but this is just plain funny.
I can picture you pulling away and pulling away and then realizing that you have to index the machine yourself.
I'm laughing with you.

Hi

On the off chance that you are trying to move it by hand:

The bolt that holds the shell holder plate in place can get to tight. That will lock things up pretty good. I have that problem on my 650 when I forget to tighten the little set screw that holds the big bolt in place.

The bolt is probably too tight.

Just as the guy above me said, the bolt holding the shell plate is probably too tight.
When snugging down the shell plate in the ram, you must be able to manually advance the shell plate using the four-part aluminum arm. Snug the bolt down until you can't move it then back it off until you can, smoothly. Then tighten the set screw in the ram underneath.
The Dillion 550 press is the best on the market in its class, and Dillion Precision Products is a top notch company. I know....

Hi

Dillon's phone support is *great*. It's a little late for a call today, but I often call them on Saturdays. I don't know when they knock off work, but they have always been there whenever I have called.

thanks i have done that still no luck

Hi

If you pull the shell plate entirely off of the machine, I *think* there is a ball bearing backed up by a spring under it (there is on the 650). Make sure something has not gotten in behind the ball bearing. You should be able to easily push it down flush with your thumb.
