Just as the guy above me said, the bolt holding the shell plate is probably too tight.
When snugging down the shell plate in the ram, you must be able to manually advance the shell plate using the four-part aluminum arm. Snug the bolt down until you can't move it then back it off until you can, smoothly. Then tighten the set screw in the ram underneath.
The Dillion 550 press is the best on the market in its class, and Dillion Precision Products is a top notch company. I know....
