Why can't I find a new Colt SAA?

I have been trying to reach Colt custom shop for a long time to put an order on a factory ordered SAA. Emails, phonecalls direct, tried distributors to get a custom shop order done. All dead ends. No replies. Ended up buying a next to new one privately in the end.. but still would like a custom shop one if I could find the right contact to make it happen

I think the company changing hands has complicated things quite heavily with them, and trickled down to their SAA output or lack thereof too.

If somebody here has a good contact though, that would get a guy someplace with an order. I'd like to hear from you about it... nothing like a real Colt

This thread prompted me to the EE for a look as I've always liked the SA Colt. Even though it would mean a whole new caliber to stock (.45 Colt) I thought I'd see what was to offer...did that ever lead to a mistake.

Guy has a Ruger Blackhawk, 5.5 inch barrel. He says he's shot it little, but it is used. He's been asking for $675.00 +shipping. I offer him what I believe to be a fair starting point ($450.00 + shipping) assuming after a haggle we'd end up in the neighbourhood of $500.00/ $550.00?

The guy acts like I said something about his mother, carries on and on about low ballers...blah, blah, blah...then says he'll split shipping but is firm on his price (there is no indication he's firm ahead of his reply.)

I thank him, politely tell him I'll pass...(he can keep bumping the thing for all I care?)

Tell me, is this what I'm to expect from the EE here?

I bought used Blackhawk's 15 years ago for around $500.... of course $500 used to buy more then it does today.

edit, just noticed Marshall got here ahead of me... :)

Congrats!
You got yourself a nice 2nd generation.
Which variation did you end up with?
Ok

Sorry im not a huge experts on the SAA front. it has the 5" barrel. comes in a nice wood display box. looks like it has a coin on the grips and on the box. Funny story i saw they had one on the web site (Calgary shooting center) but looked sold. I decided to call anyway. the one listed was sold but then they told me about this one bought from a collector. BNIB. so i pulled the pin.

Sweet, the only Colt's in my collection are a couple of the new frontier case hardened .22lr.22mag rimfire... one buntline and one 4 5/8"

If it’s in .45, 5 1/2’’. They made around 1200 of that variation, and you got a 2nd Gen.
Are you going to shoot it?

Colts are beautiful pieces.
I prefer the 5 1/2 barrel as I find it balances better.
But they’re all nice.

Measure your barrel , 5 is kinda in the middle of 4 3/4 and 5 1/2.
Never heard of an 5 inch SAA

I would say a good move to not shoot it, and if you want a shooter , get a used one or a import or Ruger.
I had a communitive python one time, had to sell it as it bugged me not shooting it. I did have others to shoot.
Same with the WW11 1911's
