Grocery stores are reporting record profits that are attributed to what they call inflation... which is just another word for price gouging.

This has got to be killing the interest in shooting for those who were used to just buying cheap factory ammo and going to the range.

This is pretty common these days to see this. From following what has happened in the US over the past few years , here in Canada we had a heads up that this kinda stuff was on the way. IMO this is basic supply and demand. No supply and high demand. I have sold some odds and ends at a local gun show at prices just plain stupid but the guy buying was happy to find it. I wasn't looking or wanting to sell stuff but as it is always said everything is for sale at a price. I need other reloading supplies and its expensive. The thing is that for most that read on this site that we know of the honey hole where outfits have powder and primers in stock. I would also bet that many have lots of product on hand bought when prices were lower. Its said that the cure for high prices is high prices. The supply of reloading goods will eventually grow and prices will come down to a more reasonable level. It is shocking though as to how wide the price variation is on primers and powder. Some of the mom and pop outfits are very uncertain when more supplies comes in so things get priced accordingly and have volume limits.

If you think that's bad, then you really haven't seen the worst. Kamloops gun show, dominion made in China primers 225$/1000 if i recall. Makes me laugh thinking of it.

Blue/red box?
Those were imported by canam, made in Russia by Muron, $30/1000 when I bought them a couple years ago.....ouch.

Good help is almost impossible to find these days. Brightness is no longer a requirement.

Filling a space behind the counter seems to be the only requirement.

That group was never a stalwart sector of the shooting community. Mostly they'r the guys that pick up a crate of surpluse between a few or more guys, go to the range and blast away at the overhead baffles or glass bottles and leave a carpet of spent steel cases for "someone else" to pick up.

They usually share a range gate key as well and don't bother to sign in, use range flags etc.

Of course, that is a rather wide brush to paint them with, but if they aren't shooting up range target frames or baffles, they're in the bush trying to see if they can actually cut down a tree with an SKS, shooting up an old TV set, laptop, toilet bowl etc and again, leaving thousands of steel cases to cover the bottom of what used to be a lovely opening in the forest.

I wish he would just go fvck himself instead of fvcking the whole country

I bought some Imperial 32-40 ammo in a gunstore that was obviously from an estate or auction or something, because that ammo hasn't been made for 40 years. $6.70 was the marked price and I bought it for $25 a box and felt lucky to find 2 boxes. The old price didn't bother me whatsoever and not sure why it would offend anyone.

He brought his price down a few hours after Dave went by to $90 and they all sold on Sunday.

They are really good primers, some of the best I've used for target loads. They are tight to seat on new brass, but on the back end when primer pockets start getting loose with N/A primers, these still fit tight.
I don't imagine we will ever see any more of these this side of the pond...you know, with Russia doing Russian stuff...

And a few years ago I saw a pile of '55 Chevy parts for $25000. In 1965 the whole used car was $250...SO..????
I sold a National Parks 1930 Buffalo that you got for a few bucks membership........... for $350.

I'm going to suggest that the retailer hasn't had these primers sitting in storage for 15-20 years. He probably got it from an estate sale or a local person sold it to him. Whatever the source, I don't know why it would be "smart" to intentionally mislead customers of the fact these are older primers, i think it shows integrity. I'd be more concerned about anyone who tried to hide it - that's deceit.

yes im sure he bought them from an estate or something like that. probably paid 9$ for them as thats half price of the stock 20 year old price. and thats integrity ? not in my books sorry

I'm sure he did NOT pay $9.00. He most likely paid a few 100 or a few 1,000 for a whole bunch of items and is putting them on the shelf with individual prices. If the estate wanted to maximize their profits they could have gone on line and sold items individually.

And to rub more salt into your wounds, the store probably, when all is said and done probably paid a fraction of the $9 you suspect he paid.

Why would you assume he paid $9/1000 if you don't actually know what he paid for it?
