After waiting for years, I finally assembled this No4Mk1T replica

Complete with cheekpiece. Went to the range again today, and I either need a longer range or a smaller gong, because at 200 yards my 10 inch gong makes it too easy. :)

With 38.8 gr of Varget pushing 180 round nose bullets, I would say it was another successful day throwing lead downrange.

Lou

I have mine in the mail finally. 22 months in Regina then a month at my buddies so he can finger bang it first. I'm excited since I'll never get to own a real one.

Took me a while to get mine together too, turned out better than I thought, I have a repro REL Mk.11 it seems to work well so far. If you have the scope tin you probably have the special tool for adjusting the scope, now you just have to figure out how you are going to do a three hand job with only two hands. LOL

And as an example of a less well-done No4(T) Reproduction, we can see this on #######:

https://www.####### .ca/firearms/rifles/city-montreal/long-branch-no4-mk-i-built-1943-4t-re-work-transit-case

The markings on the forend are very, very poorly reproduced, and nary a piece of lumber matches. Front base is crooked.

Edited to include the photos, in the event that the ad is pulled (or sold). Listed at $5565.

This is an original Long Branch No.4 Mk I built in 1943 and re-worked by Stuart Hardcastle of Saskatchewan based 'Lee Enfield Restorations'. All original metal, just the scope is a reproduction as is the beautifully crafted transit case which is included in the price. Just took it to the range and it shot super tight group at 100 yards using standard S&B .303 British ammo. Contact me for more questions and pics. I can ship anywhere in Canada. PAL a must. Shipping and insurance extra. $5565 OBO.

That's revolting.

I mean, as you mention, the crooked pad. And the wood missing around the safety, rounded excessive sanding there or whatever. Never mind the price, I'm willing to bet there are more hidden flaws in there. And I think numbering the forend like that, that's leaning towards fraudulent. A shame.

I've gotten to know Stuart over the last few years, and that is not his work, that would not have gotten past him, just not the way he does things. Definitely a fraud.

I know I am a little late to the part on this reply.

You say that that sort of thing wouldn’t get past Stuart, however I purchased two Long Branch “restored” rifles from him. One had the furniture sanded so that the stamps were no longer visible and the other had been spray painted rattle can flat black with the entire safety still in place so the bead blasted receiver showed silver when the safety was on.

Both rifles had the metal on the front hand-guard and fore end spray painted while the band was installed. My younger brother I used Stuart for motorcycle work as he restores old English bikes. Stuart had those two LB rifles for sale in the shop at the time along with a couple of English rifles.

It's defininitely "BUYER BEWARE" when purchasing anything from Stuart. Best to just stay away.

Got it out to the range and zeroed. Shooting some plinking grade hand-loads over a backpack I printed this group:

Pretty busy shooting rimfire matches this summer but I’m hoping to find the time to make a properly tailored load for this rifle and take it out to 500 or more yards.

It's back, but now at a slightly more realistic price ($2850), although with none of the photos that show just how mediocre the rifle is, which may dismay the potential buyer.
