Fuel prices and hunting plans?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/gas-prices-explained-2022-1.6460817

There is a nice graphic in that article which let's you visualize how the price has changed. Compared to a year ago Wholesale margins are up 65%, crude prices are up 80%, taxes are only up 15% and retail margins are actually down a bit.

We went from 47c taxes to 53c taxes. In the same time period we went from 28.4c in wholesale markup to 46.6c. Yes we pay a lot of taxes, but at least those taxes go to public services and not a billionaires bank account. Would I like to pay less taxes? Absolutely. But anyone who lived through the November Floods last year know we need money to invest in our infrastructure...

25% tax rate on an essential product and you are happy.

No, just a millionaires trust fund. - dan

My bad, I forgot that roads build themselves.

I literally said I would like to pay less taxes. Its right there in what you quoted. But those taxes have only gone up 6c in the last year whereas wholesale mark-up has gone up over triple that amount.

We still arguing about taxes and politics, huh?:HR:
Amazing how one troll can push a decent thread into stupid territory.
I think it was good til about Page 6 , then a 'Hero that we didn't need' thought it was a better plan to argue about politics rather than actually provide input.
It still amazes me, do they get a Dopamine rush out of that?
I never understood it til about 4-5 months ago; put a post on Linkedin, (was proud of my kid)... 300 K views and a couple thou comments...one sure gets a weird rush from Dopamine, eh?
I can acknowledge it, but I just scratch my head at the Dark Side of it. Like when it spirals into P*ssing contests, do they get a weird rush from that?
After sounding off on that, you need to start figuring out a car pool 'trapline'.
I hate hunting with strangers...hate it. But if you start now, can likely find someone with common ground to help split the gas bill.
Best of luck

You might have a point if our taxes actually paid for the infrastructure you claim they do. They dont, and neither do you. - dan

Who funds the Canadian military, DFO, Canada Food Inspection Agency, Transport Canada, Transportation Safety Board and all the other government departments and services? The tooth fairy? I don't mind paying taxes either. It is oil company profiteering I object too.

It’s easy to not mind paying taxes when you live somewhere where roads get fixed, snow gets cleared, hospitals don’t close down occasionally due to lack of staff, parks and beaches are maintained and protected from development, schools have ample teachers and programs for your kids etc etc etc

Switching from a lifted single cab Sierra with an off-road package to a 2009 Subaru Forester has changed my ability to access the places I would like to hunt but not the style of hunting that I do. A positive from gas price increase is that there will be less road warriors chasing game around this year

And who gives away billions to other countries, pretend covid payments, etc, etc? How much of the taxes you pay do you actually think goes to the things you want to support? 5%? 10%? I doubt very much it's much higher than that, or we wouldn't have a trillion dollar plus debt. - dan

Well if people aren’t happy with what we have and don’t have, you can all move to the US where everything is so much better…. Hahahah

Ah, the Liberal answer. Like moving across the border is something you can just do. Perhaps you need to pay more taxes, have your rights restricted even more, and your firearms taken away. Then you can tell us again about how "good" it is here. - dan

Plague rats can’t fly or cross the border yet, otherwise I’d entertain the idea if I didn’t live in the area I do. If I was in a city still I’d be looking to get the #### out of dodge and move to the states.

My group of friends and I have been looking forward to our annual Moose Fishing trip to northern mb this year.
It has been postponed due to the restrictions of the pandemic.
A glorious week of off grid armed fishing basically. The bunch of us are pretty banged up to actually skin and gut a moose, so we fish.
We carpool and split the bills. We pack some frozen food and a few condiments and pretty much eat fish every meal.
The outhouse is a plywood affair that keeps your bum off the cold tree trunks, but it has a million dollar view of the bay behind camp.
If we get tired of fish, there is trails to wander and maybe knock down a grouse.
We come home smelling and all of our kit smells of wood smoke.
WE ARE NOT GOING TO MISS ANOTHER YEAR!

As for local deer hunting, I seem to have a plethora of deer tracks crossing my acreage, and I can wander the farm when I'm out there helping Mom with her other chores.
If I need it, I have access to a couple of ATV's and farm equipment if I really get stuck.
If I can't use the quad, I suppose I could borrow one of my niece's ponies and ride that. I've heard you can shoot off of a horse at least once, right?
