The way inflation is going the $1k you spend on that Glock today will be worth $500 in a couple of years…so the way I see it is I am only spending $500 for a $1k firearm! What a deal!!! Seriously though, by me purchasing a couple of guns in the next few weeks that will most likely end up in my safe for some time is worth it simply to show our Dear leader that I will not just accept his vision for my Canada. I have hockey cards worth hundreds each…comics too. I never read them and have no plan on selling them because they remind me of how much enjoyment they brought me back in the day. I will be fighting this ideology of control every legal and political way I can. One way to express that intention is to invest more into supporting our sport/hobby/passion and express strongly my expectation for the right to be treated and respected as a responsible adult just like I behave. The availability of guns has not changed…society and the people in it have. When they come for the carbon fuel cars maybe then people will understand what is really going on. Truth be told, Big Pharma and the crazy types of mind altering drugs freely available are what should be looked at. Rant over.
I've got several dust collectors that I'd be happy to pass on to people new to the sport that might not have the funds lined up to buy new. I also bought a USP last night. Something I always wanted to own but never got around to picking up.
People are just trying to consolidate their collections into something they'll be happy with for the foreseeable future. I doubt many people are cashing out completely because it's entirely likely that we just end up grandfathered like prohib owners.

Eh I can see why they are. Once the sales pages slow down, I'm hoping to cash in on a few guns that I haven't shot, or don't really enjoy. I didn't buy these ones to own them forever, might as well let my unloved ones go to a good home.
one of the concerning things in there is they want to remove the ability to reclassify firearms so they are going after roll backs of their #### ideas too....

First, there is no buyback on handguns. If you think there is, read it again. Buyback is only about May 1, 2020 OIC banned rifles.
Second, whatever handguns you keep, will be worthless when you die, because they cannot be sold or transferred as part of the estate.
So if a person is getting a little older, maybe 50s, 60s, or higher, the prospects of their handgun collection are dire. If they have younger relatives with an RPAL they could transfer them now. If they don't, their handgun collection is going to the smelter when they pass. The stats say there are 1.1 million handguns, and the RCMP at the Standing Committee on Public Safety recently stated there are 276,000 owners (as of February 2020). On average that's about 4 handguns per owner. Some will have less, some will have more. It stands to reason people will be interested in liquidating at least some of that while it's possible. It's that simple. Money can be nice to have and it can go into an inheritance.

In terms of reversing the handgun freeze, it will be very difficult. A political party would never campaign on bringing back handguns. They could never be elected with that position. Not in this time in Canada.
Maybe in 50 years the culture will have changed and become more welcome of the US stance on gun ownership, but I really doubt it. It would likely go hand in hand with some desperate days in Canada, so not really a pretty picture to look forward to.

I was surprised how low number of handgun owners was. 276,000 people out of the 880,000 or more RPAL license holders. It seems more RPAL holders were owners of AR15s and so on. But it's changing as you say. First and last chance to try out handguns for a lot of people.

I have a BNIB handgun I bought a little while ago. No longer have a Gun Club and haven't shot restricted for a few years. Guess it might be going up if it'll be worthless and into a smelter when I die... no, I'm not 25 anymore.

I bet it’s gone up a lot in the last 3 days. I personally know several who made their first handgun purchase. The only problem now is demand is out taking supply.
well thank you for standing up i imagine you challenged the s74 filling and you had an ar15 ...lol we re not losing because of people like me but because many are already giving up. im pretty sure we will read soon how some many are complaining about EE when the approval will go no trought ... and the money will never be given back to the buyers ... again some are trying to capitalize on dire of others ...
