Parts Stuck in Customs

Well, I guess everyone who deals with guns know that the organized crime import a lot of parts and tools as they often bring the guns in parts batches in Canada from the USA... my understanding of what is going on is that verifying the incoming parts / tools ordered from the states is part of the enforcement to counter the smuggling. Also, 5 to 10 days at the customs isn't a long run from my own experience...

5 - 10 days is expected…. Heck I expect 3-4 weeks.

It’s when it get to 3-4 months, with no contact and no ETA from CBSA that I get irked….

I'm waiting for a silly pilot, been one month they've had it.

From the CBS
The CBSA is required by law to inform the CPC within 60 days of all mail items seized or detained, unless the mail has been delivered to the addressee or returned to the CPC before the expiry of that time.

Due to the length of time that the status of your parcel has remained unchanged, we encourage you to contact the Border Information Service (BIS) at one of the numbers listed below, so that we may transfer your call to the Mississauga processing centre, currently examining your parcel.
Toll free (Canada and the U.S.A) : 1-800-461-9999

My package that has been at CBSA since Mar. 19 was released late on May 11th.
At least now it is on it's way to me, took too long but at least I didn't have to wait as long as some have had to.

After creating an account and ticket on May 10, I received a notice that my package was released from Mississauga on May 11 and on its way, to be delivered by May 17.

Time will tell.

I had a great chat with cbsa over the phone. the tip was to get the shipper to send it through fedex, purolator or ups... postal clearance is what is slow

I wondered if that was the case as they love to do stuff that hurts licensed firearms owners rather than going after the criminal.

We legal folk are the low hanging fruit and easy to pick off! The cops need to wipe their jackboots clean and start stomping on the real criminals for a change!

BTW .... my parcel finally arrived on May 11 ..... ordered on Feb 11

Finally!! Ordered March 15, stuck in Canada customs from Mar 19 to about June 2, arrived yesterday. Part from Numrich was wrong and was a used part. Three small items from Brownell's, one was also wrong. What a process!!!

Unfortunately that is going to cost you big $$$ for processing and brokerage fees. At worst with CP it is $9.95 and PST/GST if the package gets opened.

Depending on where you live, you can tell the courier to send your paperwork and self-clear at a CBSA office. Where I am in Winnipeg, most courier and CBSA are within a 10min drive of the airport, so doing a self-clear can usually be done quickly. You still have to pay tax and duty (if applicable), but save the brokerage. Sometimes with a courier like DHL, the savings are only $15-20, so not always worth the time/effort to do it yourself.
