I'd just sell it and buy a M700. Problem solved.![]()
If I had not handled it much and fallen in love, that would be the logical decision.

I've a European tweaked 21.
They took some type to grinder ( my bet on a flapper style unit) and ground it to fit.
Mine has a 1" tube weaver on a Mauser Short side rail though...that might change things a bit too
I have a 21 h in 8x57 and use the same mounts you have with a leupold 3x9 compact,kelly
The bolt on mine has had material removed but it doesn’t correspond with any scope dimensions I can lay my hands on.
Takujualuk, that is good information thank you. Do you know the model number or product number of the scope? I have a lead on a small Burris currently but a fixed Leupold would suit me as well.
Tokguy, thanks for the pictures. Your rifle appears to be a sporterized 98, my rifle is a 21H so bolt dimensions are quite different. At this point a side mount might work, but as I’m reluctant to spend big bucks on second bolt or bolt modification, Im also not willing to drill and tap for a side mount.
Thanks to everyone who has chimed in so far. A few people have made measurements and posted them and a few more have measured and PMed me various scope ocular dimensions.
The scopes that seem likely that I do not have dimensions for so far are :
Leupold Ultralight or Compact in any magnification
Leupold FX II in any magnification
Weaver V3 1-3
Burris Compact 4x or Burris 4x Timberline
I have now determined that the M8 4 and 6 powers are a “shade” too big, they are Nominally 1.5” .
It's a 46, lol.
Sorry about the mixup... better have tea here.
Fix or replace the bolt ... a scope mounted 2 inches high is ridiculous...
