Ruger M77 in 300WSM who's got one?

none taken, its all about personal preference.
the knurling and the huge casting seam on the factory bolt just annoyed me. i cringed every time i looked at it it was so sloppy. i thought about doing something with the factory knob but stainless is often a nightmare to machine.

you can order several styles of aftermarket savage bolts:

the original is factory small, mine is factory BT. the Tactical seems like it would clear a scope ocular quite well. i have big hands and when i tried to work the factory small bolt handle there wasnt enough clearance, it was so close to the scope.

LOL, thanks for the input Gatehouse, much appreciated.
I never had an issue with things catching on the bolt release when I had the 110 in 30-06. I might still buy the Ruger just because and see which one preforms better, then I'll decide, but the Ruger might not happen, must wait and see.
As for feeding I have some tricks up my sleeve for that.

Savage rifles are fine for most people...Millions of hunters have used them sucessfully, so don't get me wrong...

It is just that I have detected things in Savage rifles that I didn't like, and made them less than 100% reliable, IMHO.

FWIW, my last Ruger purchase needed a trigger tune up, and I will be replacing the stock. The bolt was also somewhat "gritty" but smoothes after some working.

Few things are perfect, I just think that a Ruger is closer than a Savage...:)

Exactly.
Thank you for the info. Neat.

My M77RS in 7RM (tang safety) I had the trigger done also, I picked it up used, the bolt worked smoothly, the Rugers I handled in the stores were a bit rough, but so were most of the new rifles I handled, a bit of working and they flow. I'm happy with the factory wood stock, I love my M77, great rifle.

Have Two Savages myself. My 99 in .308 always dependable for the 200yd shot. My model 12 bvss in 300wsm - had to work on a load for it to be accurate. Now it shoot sub moa and is accurate at 400m (Have not pushed it any farther). On the the bad side my brother sold model 11 back to the
store because it would not shoot sub moa and the rounds were all over the place at 200m let alone the spread at 300. Give yours a go and see what it will do before you modify it.

, i just bought a ruger fronteir in 300wsm for 699$, from bashaw sports in Bashaw alberta. he had (has?) one left. he has all the rugers on sale.
screw on a leupold ier and its rokkin,
the stores # is 1 780-372-4440 ask for Pud or Randy

This looks better than before, changed bases and scope and added a little touch of the grinder to the bases and rings. Now there is an 1/8" between the ring and bell.

That's better for now.

Well I had it out the other day and was using Federal 180g cheapo factory as a barrel break in, and just getting the scope sighted in, here's what happened.
When cleaning the barrel as a break in, I didn't see any copper fouling at all, just powder fouling, maybe after 5 consecutive shots between cleanings I'd see just a hint of copper fouling, also with the barrel clean the first two shots grouped nicely, third & fourth not so well?

So I tried a few shots without cleaning in between groups and found that these groups were much bigger, then went back to cleaning the barrel, again the first two shots were looking good.
I always thought and experienced that the first two shot out of a clean barrel would be flyers, where as this seems to be the opposite?
New gun needs to be fired more?

There were no scope adjustments made between groups #3 & #4 then again between #5 & #6.
I have some new loads to try out soon using 168g A-Max and several different loads using Win760 and IMR4350.
