Now that you've done one deep clean you likely wont need to do another for quite some time.

You can get some quick pull pins if you think you'll be pulling apart often but I never bothered.

What non-corrosive do you shoot? I know for the cheaper stuff, now that Barnaul and Tula/Wolf or similar are not widely available anymore, the options are pretty limited (at least within my budget/price-point, which is cheap, cheap cheap)

There have been enough reports that anything Chinese made to treat it as corrosive … people do nail tests and such, but there’s been enough reports of mostly non-corrosive batches sometimes having some corrosive primers still mixed in as well. A lot of retailers and shooters have been burned with the Chinese non-corrosive. Most people recommend shooting whatever cheapest you can find and clean your rifle as if it were corrosive. The Barnaul, Tula, etc have all been non-corrosive, but I think they are disappearing from shelves. I see mostly Chinese 7.62x39 around my area.

Yeah same here. I would gladly overpay for Barnaul now and it's too bad I didn't get an SKS till this year - I remember seeing this ammo everywhere, aplenty. I see Barnaul even sold hollow point 7.62x39, not just the FMJ stuff.

That's good advice on the Norinco. Assuming things has been a bit of a pitfall of mine over the years and I'd hate to assume that ammo that sells for half the price as their brass-cased counterparts, would not have any QC issues.

I have 3 sks's and I've gone through decent amount of ammo in each. I have had exactly 1 jam in 6 years and that because i was quite sloppy loading. I only ever cleaned the one that still had Cosmo. Haven't done anything more than a surface wipe since.

Ruger PCC with Pmags has has 0 issue but i haven't put enough through to say its the champ yet.

Ive got about a dozen guns (mostly Semi's). If I had to pick one for my life to depend on it, it would 100% be the SKS

SKS, without question. This would be followed by the Tavor IMO. MY Tavor has been 100% reliable and I have probably put 7000k through it With that being said, the barrel does seem to be wearing fast. One of the worst is the WK180 or the likes of it. Total POS and an embarrassment to Canadian manufacturing.

It definitely does seem like a better weapon than the SKS for sure. I think I'd go with an SKS and the rest of the money saved put into ammo, but the T81 is much more modern and seems tough as nails alright

Well, hardly scientific, but...

I got an SKS last week - matching serial numbers, good condition (metal all good - stock a bit rough), cleaned it and took it to the range yesterday...shot it once, then the trigger didn't reset and it has completely seized. So for my first SKS, first impressions of reliability are somewhat suspect...that said I have heard many others having good experiences with them.

Thankfully when I went to the range last night, I brought more than just the SKS...I did bring my WK180 (Gen 1). Maybe it was the ammo I was using but every 3-4 rounds it I either had a FTF, F2E/stovepipe..this is kind of unusual given that generally it has been fairly reliable...but then I recall I had to re-tighten my handguard screws and the gas block screws, and then of course, the more annoying thing is the darn threaded charging handle keeps loosening...I haven't had a shared CH yet nor have I had the broken piston rod. But compared to the X95, there is really no comparison.

The other guns I brought last night was my trusty FX9 (I know it's a PCC and so a bit off topic here), but the only thing I don't like about it is bolt catch/bolt lock just releases by itself for no reason when the gun is slightly bumped or even on a gust of wind - no joke...

The final gun I brought was my Benelli semi-auto. As usual, that thing runs like a champ. Never had an issue with it and I may never will.]

But back to black rifles - the X95 has been so reliable, and eats anything I put into it. It is comfortable to shoot, easy to accessorize and just super duper reliable. My only regret with it is that I didn't buy it sooner.
