New Apex Optics from Calgary

Another email was sent yesterday saying that the scopes had been stuck in customs and were arriving in Calgary this weekend. Email stated that they're planning in working through the weekend to inspect everything, and they're hoping to start shipping orders on Tuesday.
Haven't seen any further details on Calgary customers getting theirs hand-delivered yet, but I'm assuming we'll see a second email soon.
My new rifle is built (Zermatt Origin in 6mm GT), and my brass and dies have shown up, so I impatiently await my scope's arrival.

Wow, these look awesome and they're canadian... im just seeing them now - is there anywhere i can still get one?

If you are serious, PM me and I will give you my slot in the pre-order. Vanja keeps e-mailing me for payment despite my e-mail cancelling the order. I don't see why you can't simply take my place if you want, for an order in the 85X range....

First impressions are good.

Scope is unmounted but I played a bit with it yesterday. Occular ring is easy to adjust and it was near bang on for my eyes from the factory. I would like a way to lock it.

I can compare it with an Athlon Ares ETR 3-18 and a Bushnell Elite DMR II 3.5x21.

Glass: definitly better than the Bushy but I would need to compare at the range with the Athlon. From my backyards they are close but it's close range and it's hard to hold the Apex unmounted without shaking when you zoom in. My DMR II has more CA. Contrast and clarity is also better on the Apex.

Eyebox: eyebox is good as I'm able to hold a clear view of the reticle even at 32x. Will update once it's mounted but it's far better than a NX8 (I had trouble getting behind one). I consider the eyebox to be good as well on my Bushy and Athlon. More info to come when mounted.

Turrets: Stainless steel so they are much better than my Bushnell and at least as good as the Athlon. Tactile with a clear sound and not mushy at all.

I get 2 full turns with the elevation (so 30 mils). I didn't check or play with the zero stop

On windage I get 5 mils right and 5 mils left so there's a mechanical stop that I didn't investigate. Perharps someone can enlighten me.

Illumination: At 3 or 4 power it is perfect for low light. At 6 (max) it's really too bright with some bleeding in the reticle (mostly numbers). The knob is perfect as you feel a click at each setting and I don't see how you would move it accidently. Also I like the off setting between each level.

I tried illum at dusk so maybe max setting is fine for a sunny day but I never use illum then.

Reticle: one of the high point imo. The reticle is useable at 4x which is impressive and it's one of the cleaner christmas tree I have seen.

Parallax: it goes down to about 15 yards which is true. The knob has enough resistance so you don't move it by accident but it's smooth enough to turn. More tests to follow at the range. At first glance it doesn't seem too finicky to play with.

Tracking: didn't test anything.

Everything else is very good. The only thing that sucks is the scope lens caps. They barely hold but they will get the job done before I switch. For info I use a mix of Vortex Defender and Tenebraex.

Awesome review. I heard WOMFAT say the caps sucked too. Consider a couple wraps of electrical tape on the scope or interior of the caps to 'shim' it on for a better friction fit?

The really bright illumination settings are EXCELLENT if you want to shoot squirrels or grouse at 4x magnification with a teenie tiny reticle at that mag on FFP scopes. Id heard that the reticle is usable at low magnification which is amazing already - but that intense brightness will be super useful if you're using the scope in a hunting situation.

I've got one on the way to me now, cant wait to see it for myself.

Any mention of magnification range, reticle, or weight?

Yeah. 3-15 and a simplified, bolder version of the Rival Ret. Final weight was still up in the air. I encouraged them to keep it around 20-22 ounces w/ 44mm obj, if they could do it without sacrificing tracking & durability.

Missed the Puro guy on Friday. Picked it up yesterday, mounted last night, shot it today. I usually shoot Leupold varmint scopes of various vintages and powers on my varmint rifles and Nightforce on my my PRS rifles. I will echo the comments above, so far so good. I did a quick box test too and it tracked square and true. I don't think I'll keep the caps long after I find a neoprene or similar cover. Bonus to Apex for having very easy to understand and use instructions.

got mine mounted up.

quick comparison to my Sightron s3 6-24 FFP. The FFP S3 had noticeable better glass vs my older SFP S3.
The apex dialed down to 24x had a brighter image, Glass also had a bit sharper image when trying to read lettering.
