Is pistol collecting dead in Canada? I think yes.

Just had to post my observations. With the freeze inbound, what we own in September or October will be it, likely forever unless there is a miracle after the next election.

What I used to see as collectible, I'm now seeing as a tool gun I should shoot the piss out of before eventual confiscation or destruction when I die.

Yet obviously others see things differently. The EE is now littered with collectable guns people are now urgently trying to offload while charging last year's prices, as though collection building is still a "thing".

In my view, a mint 1914 Colt 1911 with provenance is now just another well made 1911. To be seen as something to dump .45 through until it gets welded up or crushed at some future date. No different than a decent modern series 70, Springfield armory or para ordnance 1911.

You can say the same for things like Swiss lugers, early s&w model 27s, Colt pythons, etc.

Not sure who sees this differently or why, but I think I'm in the majority point of view with all the listed "collectables" that aren't moving on the EE of late wearing bonkers price tags. Same guns last year would have been bought within a few days.

I'm also wondering whether these guns are going to start dropping in price like a stone as September nears. Will it still make sense for anyone to hang on to an accumulation of the same model gun in the same caliber, based on different markings or grip checkering patterns when you can never add to that collection or transfer it to anyone else in the future?

Pistol collecting is going to pick up greatly in the very near future. That's the good news.

Bad news is, it's going to be Trudeau collecting ours.

C-21 excludes collecting as a reason in many of its sections. That hasn't been discussed much but is very worrying. With collecting gone as a reason, target shooting becomes pretty much it, so along comes central storage because, hey, that's the only place where you can 'do it', right?

i hope to at least get 25 years more out of mine.

hopefully at some point a new gov't will put in some common sense gun laws. we just have to get conservatives to back the only conservative gov't that has a chance of getting in or there could be more of this b.s. now with internet censorship. carbon tax eating away at life, the new fertilizer cut backs for farmers and the many other ridiculous things this gov't comes up with, maybe the rest of Canadians will wake up. i am not holding my breath thou...

I think some antiques will go up in value, but for cap and ball stuff, the inconvenience factor of shooting it will keep some away. Also, there is no guarantee these won't be swept up in coming legislation.

At which point many of these will be pushing 130 years old or better. Even now they are 80 to a hundred. It's amazing anybody would spend any effort whatever going after them. But they are which tells you it's ideological and not public safety.

Get your endless Rona boosters, get your monkey pox vaccines, give up your guns, stop eating food and die.

It is really simple...
