^^ I agree, some fake cans are way too easy to convert into real thing. While noise suppression may be not too effective it will put you outside the law nevertheless. Or even without modification it may reduce muzzle blast enough to make you criminal. Now, if you make it perfectly legal it will hardly resemble real thing ( with holes all over and being short and way too small)and as such may loose its attractiveness to prospective buyers. Do not forget that look is everything in this kind of "attachment".

On agreement to size, shape or pre-ordering - it will never happen, Suputin. You should understand most markets are made (created) by manifacturers, goodies available on a market make the market for those goodies. You know, sort of "if you build them they will come".

I would be interested in a non threaded(set screw) fake suppressor for a Beretta 71 in 22lr thats coming my way. I hope you'll post pictures when you are a little farther along with this deal. I think it would set it apart from the rest:D
Dont worry about the language barrier. Most wont let that get in the way of injoying their passion for firearms;)

I didn't get into this business to build fakies. However if there really is a desire to have these things I think it would be smarter for all involved to have them properly made and certified as fakes not suitable for conversion to the real thing. That will take more than drilling out and threading a hunk of aluminum with some paint slapped onto it. Cause I could convert that to the real thing with a couple of hours work. ;)

Personally I think fake suppressors are a ticket to problems with the legal system. The only thing most Canadians (including LEO) know about silencers is they are highly illegal.

Also to engineer a fake so it absolutely cannot be converted to work will be quite difficult. The problem is what is considered a working silencer and how long does it have to last? I've seen airsoft silencers which are nothing more than a thin metal tube with a foam filling. Stick that thing unmodified on a .22 rimfire rifle and I guarantee it will reduce the muzzle signature for at least a few rounds. Replace the foam with some simple plastic baffles and it will work even better and last longer.

Thank you for all the reply!
This is what I am doing / thinking
1. I have this .223 perfectly legal fake silencer as base.

2. I am going to pay for a machinist to do a CAD model for it : Put the thread in about 2/3 of the base where all the extended barrel just hide into the fake suppressor and widen a little bit of the original hole so the P22's barrel sleeve can fit into the fake silencer.

3. Screw it on

Did I make my self clear or I messed up english again ??

mickey, si tu nous montre un photo d'un prototype, on peut faire un meilleur commentaire. si le qualite est bon, le prix n'est pas tres important.

Ahem ...

... and that's beside your poor grammar.

... I guess growing up in the "bilingual belt" was a benefit.

Apparently not. :(

Then, you might ask yourself what have you done to advance this sport, yet ridicule another who has.

Hey mickey -- I think your fake can has a high look cool factor on that pistol. ;)

Regards.

Mickey, that "fake" silencer is big enough to accomodate expanding gases and significantly reduce muzzle blast, after certain modifications. Ask Suputin :) - I think you put yourself into a grey area. And, again, what is the purpose? Posing? I mean come on, if you are THAT immmature, maybe you should find yourself another hobby.

Easy, maybe you've read the thread a bit to fast......Sogetthis, IMHO, was never mean or sarcastic towards Mickey "au contraire"...he tried to help and encourage him!

He's also been a great help for many... concerning gunsafes related questions!

Respectfully:)

OK

I think that some of the naysayers should look up a forum or two to the Black and Green Rifles threads, and be quiet about posing. We do the same thing with our AR's. Get over it.

A fake suppressor is a cool idea, and being the first to make one for a P22 would be pretty spectacular. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the reply first!

the purpose:
1. Most of the Canadian version P22's stabilizer will loosen after a few cleaning. This will hinder shooting accuracy.
2. If we choose to take the stabilizer off, the gun will look very ugly.
3. Some people choose to cut the barrel to barely legal 105mm or 106mm (cant remember), but there is still about 2" stick out of the barrel (ugly )
4. We like better looking guns

Its same as people painting their guns, modify their guns, put all sort of stuff on the guns, its not immature, just a way to express their love to the guns!:pirate:

Why would you want something like this?
If it is a fake silencer what would be its purpose?

Are you going to rent it out for movies?

mickey- can you still use the factory sights with a fake suppressor that has that large a exterior diameter?
The look cool factor is right on but I think you want to make sure its still useable.

Thank you for piont that out, I did not think of it until now. I am going to double check the figures.

thanks again

Mickey, I got posession of Walther P22 with longer barrel. I do not think fake suppressor will be a good idea at all. The whole construction is very soft and weak, especially barrel to frame atachment point. Longer chunk of whatever hanging at the end of a barrel will inevitably break polymer frame, particularly barrel clamp. I have no doubt about it. Bottom line - you can experiment with your gun till you break it, but it will not be a good business selling those things to people (wasn't it your question?) as you will be wrecking somebody else's beloved pistols.

Suputin hit the nail on the head. Manufacturing a 100% “fake” silencer is by no means easy. From the legal standpoint, a device that reduces the sonic level by just one decibel is still technically a sound suppressor. If you brought your "fake" silencer to the range and someone decided to report you to the cops, you could find yourself in a very interesting situation.

Loads of guys are putting the real thing on the P22 down in the US with no adverse effects on the gun. I don't see how a fakie would be any different.

Especially if you don't know how to properly test a real silencer. I can assure you the cops don't know.

I would put one on and not fear. Any fool can look at it and see its not a real silencer because it doesnt have the guts inside that a real one would.

It may redirect some of the noise forward like the Vais muzzle brakes claim to. I know my girlfriend would appreciate such a thing.

Lots of people modify their guns to suit a certain look. Hell some people even dress up a certain way. Think what you will about it, nobody is getting hurt, no laws are broken, and people are having fun. Thread away!
