Picture of the day

I was thinking they looked too fat to be .38 Spl, lol.

He is also wearing the shoulder patch of the US Army 173rd Airborne Brigade (which served in Vietnam between May 1965 and August 1971.)

This unit was heavily involved in the 'tunnel rat' operations, as shown in the photo (with same 173rd patch, and .45ACP M1917 revolver). Of course, .38 Spl revolvers were also used.

I read that if a tunnel rat fired his handgun in the confines of a tunnel he was deaf for a number of days after

Thanks for the info!

Thanks! that big hole sure does look like a 45. I guess it would be possible but 45ACP on belt loops sounds like a challenge because the round is so stubby?
( looking forward pictures, always ready to learn some more)

Cavalry Sword modeled on the ancient swords of the Guard. The fist and guards, "Fighting the Lion with the Serpents". The lion, the true fist, and the head its helmet; the coiled snakes constitute the rods of the garrison. The blade, forged and tempered, presents in the fort, next to the tang, the shield of the "Associação Comercial do Porto" and in all its length, on one side, in a list profusely ornamented with triumphal palms the name "M. DE ALBUQUERQUE " and on the other side, the national coat of arms and the word "CHAIMITE". The silver scabbard with two clamps and two rings. The ornamentation of the mouthpiece of acanthus and laurel leaves with two winged lions' heads.
The armbands are studded with emeralds surrounded by diamonds. A coiled snake replaces the edge of the wedge, part intended to rub across the floor; the eyes of all this decorative fauna are made of rubies and sapphires. At the top of the mouthpiece is the engraving "A. MACHADO & F. PORTO - 1897"

Incredible sword and sheath!
Bet that wasn't used for slicing tomatos........

I seriously doubt it was used for combat.

That doesn't mean it wouldn't be capable but theat grip, pommel and hand guard would be very difficult to grasp and control.

Incredible skill in making it up though.

Looks like he's packing a Fairbairn fighting knife on his thigh.
