Can you find any at a gun shop? I haven't looked lately.

No...I cant find any for sale here,,,,so I searched the net to see how to make it.......and I found out I cant.

by next summer, my Cap N Ball revolver will be a paper weight.
 
Technically you are manufacturing explosives ... which is a no-no to the best of my knowledge (which is limited in this area)

I don't see anything about BP for personal use in there.

This page lays out the activities that allow explosive manufacture "without authorization" ... black powder manufacture is only mentioned "for ceremonial use"

The next page goes on to outline how to get authorized ... but not clearly - though the person who "authorizes" is "chief explosives inspector" So there is a person, an office and a phone number. Best place to start I would think.
 
Well if you googled how to make it you’re probably on a list now.. kinda like googling, how to make a pipe bomb … always add ; in a Video game” �� lol
 
Aside from Youtube, there are a couple Amateur Pyrotechnics Forums out there, guys building their own Fireworks shells full of all manner of colored and other effects.

So there is a pretty solid knowledge base out there. Read and learn. Esp. on the safety aspects. Inevitably, it has been one safety screwup or another that has wiped out the various powder manufactures over time.

Just saying, but there are a lot of things done regularly, that are illegal. Unless someone gets hurt, or you have too many nosy neighbors asking questions, it generally doesn't come up.
 
I would remind all that discussion of illegal activities is banned here on gunnutz. Reasonable to ask "is it legal" (answer is no) but suggestions of how to go about it ends there

Honestly, that sounds just like the folks that say that making your own booze will blind you. Face it. The folks posting videos on this stuff are not exactly all rocket scientists, yet they are and have been making their own with a useful level of success. And those are just the ones that bothered to video their processes.

Life is full of risks. Learn about what you need to do to mitigate them, reduce their severity and consequences, and generally avoid taking risks you do not have to. Accept the risks you must, but know what they are.

but way to much red tape and legalities for this old fart LOL
I dont need the long arm of the law crashing through the door. Nope.

without getting into the process involved ( which would go against the rules here ) ... there is a part of the process that the powder is extremely unstable .

i know a guy who blew up his shed and most of it landed in his neighbors yard .... he was very knowledgeable and had done it before many times , a professional type of person in his late 50's , so not some yahoo ..... and things still got away from him

yea :) pretty much - did you read the requirements for JUST APPLYING!?? apparently they want to be pretty sure you don't blow up your shed... or the neighbor's shed ... or all the sheds on the block.
