New permit needed for handgun import starting Aug 19

So, they're going to give you an opportunity to apply for an import permit they have no intention of issuing?

Talk about operating in bad faith.

Judging from Ed Berlew is saying in a different thread, nope. You will absolutely be able to bring your guns to/from the states, its just going to take more effort on your part to get the paperwork sorted out.

They still need the option of allowing imports for Law Enforcement, etc. hence the permit...

They are exempted and always have been. There is probably paperwork for law enforcement agencies and military but it's almost certainly different than this new import pernit.

The permit will be used for armed security, "elite" olympic shooters, businesses supplying movie props, and museums.

Everyone in parliament should be slapped across the face, I mean every single person in there...

The ''system'' that rules over us is pathetic...so convoluted, so corrupt, so ostentatious.

Gross...

Let's go to Ottawa, en masse...it's our house!!

Reminds me of the SAP (Special Authority to Possess) permits that allowed 12.(1,2,3,4,and 5's) to take their legally bought and paid for property to the range. They just stopped issuing them for that purpose (of using them)

The Gov't got away with it then, and they are trying a similar tactic now.

Unbelievably authoritarian move by ottawa, this sets a dangerous precedent going forward. Hopefully there are tons of court challenges on this move

5. An import permit will normally be issued by the Minister to allow a restricted handgun for which a registration certificate was already issued to be returned to Canada.

So what you're saying is, if you export a handgun and want to import it back in, you have to first export it and then put 100% faith in the word of the government telling you they will "normally" issue you an import permit, right after they made an announcement that they won't issue any....

Sounds great, doesn't it.

do not wait others for challenging what you think should be done ... that is the exact reason we got only 300 that challenged s74 and the previous oic ...

By the time such a court challenge is filed for such a temporary measure, C-21 will be fully in force and it won't matter.
