85 stainless laminate, with optiloks. VISA wont love me this time, the cash I got from my 30-06 will about cover the 338 with optiloks thrown in at no cost :dancingbanana:

if the mag box is 2.925" like it is on a short mag 85, a 250 grainer will be played with, just for kicks

Alright, where you gettin an 85 for $1000, I may need one too.:)

one advantage of working in a gun store is sometimes a wicked deal will come by :p ;) The fact fellow gun nutz arent buying these 338 federals, made Stoeger Canada try to dump some at a much lower cost, along with free optiloks. Didnt take much thinking for me to push the red button on the '06 :D retail after tax on this rifle + mounts would be a bit over two grand :runaway: no brainer!

I was playing around with a caliper and various bullets, @ 2.925" a 210 TSX/250 Partition occupy the case to the bottom of the shoulder. Might be able to stuff enough powder in there to make a 250 grainer into a 200 yard thumper load...maybe

we will see :D

The only issue I had with seating the .308, is while the mag is 2.94, the interbonds I loaded touch the lands at 2.905, leaving heavy ones too deep.

Nice cartridge. I need one, some day. That and a 358, and I'll have completed my 308-based commercial cartridge lineup. Then to start on the wildcats. The 25-08 has always tickled my fancy.

Anyway, have fun. Shoot something with it, and post pics
