The left has been increasing gun control bans, prohibitions, and restrictions for almost 100 years. They are getting more aggressive with each new change. I don't know of any step to ever reduce any of those restrictions or prohibitions, by any government, other than the dropping the registry which was mostly due to ridiculous cost, and did nothing to restrict or reverse any restriction on guns or classification.
The 2020 OIC still has a glimmer of hope for reversal in that it's a broken POS with no plan how to implement it properly or pay for it, and still has big cost associated. There is hope that if a conservative government takes power before it's fully implemented it can still fail, but it's very slim IMO.
The handgun freeze has no cost, and very little visual or public impact if it stays in place. It's ~2.5% of the country who own handguns, the majority of the rest have drank the Kool-Aid on how dangerous they are, and that no one needs a handgun.
Reversing either in part or fully, exposes those politicians for a full crucifixion on the first gun crime that can in anyway be connected to the reversal. It has little reward to appease 1 million Canadians and huge risk if it goes bad.
I'm hopeful, that neither are permanent, but not optimistic. The only real hope is the complete collapse of Canada.
