What is the best Pistol Caliber Carbine? What's the most user friendly, most accurate, and able to hold the most ammunition and is non-restricted?

I know nothing of these things.

10 rounds would be the maximum capacity for any PCC sold in Canada, though some are permitted to hold just 5 rounds, depending on the classification of the magazines they use. If only made for the carbine, not for a pistol, such as is the case with the Hi Point model 995, then strictly limited to 5 shots per magazine. The FX-9, Ruger, TNW ASR, JR Carbine, etc, which can use Glock or other pistol magazines are permitted to hold 10 rounds.

As for what's best... that's going to be a matter of opinion, based on aesthetic preferences, personal experiences... There are numerous threads covering the same sort of question with any number of models being brought up as 'best' for whatever reasons. No conclusions can be reached, as there is no one size fits all sort of PCC. Comes down to what you want from one. What expectations you have. How much or little you like to tinker with your firearms to make them perform optimally, or perhaps you're the sort who expects perfection of function out of the box and ever after with little to no maintenance - seems a bit unrealistic considering that any machine needs maintenance - but some folks seem to expect this kind of perfection for under $1,000. I bought my TNW ASR 9mm knowing there were a handful of changes I was going to make to it before ever firing a shot. That's how I roll. I'm extremely happy with the end result of all my tinkering. But I wouldn't expect everyone to have the patience nor the skills necessary to 'finish' making such a firearm, so you'll need to do some research and try to narrow down your preferences.

Cheers. I'm to understand some .40 caliber pistol mags will hold 12 or 13 rounds of 9mm, so I suppose I'm asking for Mike in Canmore, which NR PCC would accept these magazines?

If you are found to be loading more than 10 rounds in a magazine for any firearm in Canada, you will be charged with a criminal offence. Mike from Canmore or not, you're going to get familiar with the inside of a prison, or at a minimum lose your PAL.

What is the best Pistol Caliber Carbine? ....

It really depends on what you want to use it for (plinking, 3-Gun, hunting, or just taking up space in the safe). And after that, it depends on many of your personal preferences. In Canada, our NR options are limited and I'll go out on limb and say that they all do pretty much the same thing.

That said, most people would probably agree that the Ruger PCC is generally the most reliable, out of the box. But even some of these can have problems (fewer than other options though), and many people think the handling on them is terrible. If you're not a tinkerer able to address common PCC reliability issues yourself, and if you don't mind how the Ruger handles, then it's probably at the top of the recommended list.

I'm not sure it qualifies as a PCC, but if you want tacticool on a budget, you should look hard at the 9" GSG-16 in 22LR. From five feet away, to most people it looks pretty much as cool as you can get in this country. Supposedly very reliable, great mag capacity (22+1), and plenty loud with hot ammo out of that short barrel.

No, the law explicitly mentions that loading wrong calibre magazines with more than 10 is okay, like loading a .40 s&w with 9mm.

The caveat is that 9mm doesn't work that great in .40S&w even though you can stick 2-3 more rounds in because the feed lips are so wide it creates feeding problems.

(b) that is capable of containing more than 10 cartridges of the type for which the magazine was originally designed and that is designed or manufactured for use in a semi-automatic handgun that is commonly available in Canada.

Otherwise all magazines would be illegal because I could fit 11 .22lr cartridges into a 9mm magazine and thus make it contain more than 10 rounds.

I had to take apart the GSG-16 magazines and file the follower guide slots smooth, polishing them once a continuous curving slot (the casting leaves a slightly angular curve), and polish the rear inner face as well, as they were sticking badly at various levels of remaining ammunition. On our last outing we found them still sticking slightly now and then, but it seems it's down to CCI SV being covered in wax. Combined with the odd misfeed/double feed, I'd not exactly call the GSG-16 reliable. And there there are the reports of cracked bolt carriers when using hotter ammunition...

Sorry, my mistake. Guess you're free to dump in whatever ammunition you like.

I'm not really interested in .22LR. I have plenty of those already. I'm really focusing on something in either 9mm or 45acp.
