Interesting article on CBC on what Alberta CFO is doing to improve the transfer, but I also find this section interesting:
Her office takes on some firearms processing work but the vast majority is still done in New Brunswick — about 95 per cent, according to Bryant. She said the centre out east is understaffed.
Gun ownership laws in Canada are about to change. Here's what is happening in Alberta
yes this part struck me "There are around 12,500 ownership transfer requests in process. Transfers with no concerns are processed in Miramichi; if there are any public safety concerns or issues with the licence holder, the file is passed to the ACFO for further review."
Someone either got the facts wrong or heard something wrong. It was a CBC article after allyes, read that part too. So ON CFO process seem to be whole ontario is a concern and need to be processed in ON???

Good to know thanks! I assumed it would be other way around.BC CFO will handle that transfer, not Ontario. Wrong thread.
Now that makes sense. ThanksThey miss a crucial part;
All non-restricted go through Miramichi only (hence why they are almost instant sometimes), unless there is some concern (idk why the person will still have an active license at that point) or some other issue, then it gets forwarded to the CFO who investigates. But, all restricted transfers go through Miramichi + CFO, period, regardless of if there is and issue or not, they go through both entities.
This is how it goes afaik.

From the RCMP site
1. When you call the CFP, you will be provided with a transfer number. Make sure the transferor (seller) and the transferee (buyer) have that transfer number
2. The CFO for the jurisdiction receives the request and will review the transfer to make sure that the transferee (buyer) is acquiring the restricted firearm or prohibited handgun for one of the permitted purposes (Firearms Act, Section 28)
3. Both the transferor and the transferee will receive a confirmation notice to let them know the transfer is complete. After a transfer is approved the new registration certificate will be mailed to the new owner within a few weeks
