Browning Hi-Power - how good is this gun

I've had a slight sore spot on the web of my hand from the hammer before but never blood that I can recall.

My Inglis had drawn blood many times. If I hold it like I want to hold a pistol, I'm gonna bleed. The web of your thumb is a crappy place for a cut. lol I can avoid hammer bite by choking down on the grip, but I have to think about it (so I do). I prefer some other pistols for this reason. But everyone should have a BHP and I do love them. It's the first wonder 9. No?

I just purchased the last new Browning Hi Power that Canada's Gun Store had. Perhaps the last new in Canada? Either way, I hesitated a long time before the purchase because it is a hefty price (over $2000 with taxes). I always wanted a Browning Hi Power and this thread did help take my decision. I hope it's as sweet as some say it is!

Mark III??

Well, retailers received a few of these some time ago. I called Canada’s Gun Store and they indeed said these were new Browning Hi Powers that had never been sold. Type Browning Hi Power Silver Chrome on Google and you will see a few of the Canadian retailers who had them in stock.

I was really debating buying this new hi-power. Some hi-power traditionalists did not like it because it is not a redo of the traditional hi-power and looked different. Others were saying they like the fact that it has improved previous well-known hi-power issues. I went with a Girsan hi-power clone instead as it more closely resembled the traditional hi-power and it was 1/2 the price. Also liked the traditional look better. However, I would love to compare the two side by side. Regardless of old v new, I am sure you will enjoy it.

My Girsan MC P35 arrived yesterday and it is a very good copy of my mkIII Hi-power. Most of the parts seem like they will interchange though the machining on the slide rails (not sure if its the slide or the frame or both) is a bit of an interference fit when I try swapping slides between them. Once the Girsan is broken in I'll try it again. The Girsan is the only copy of the mkIII that I've seen on the market.

I didn't use it myself, but my friend bought it to take with him on hunting trips. To be honest, I don’t really understand why, because he has a couple of other pistols, but he says that Browning Hi-Power So far, he hasn’t held the best pistol in his hands!

Isn't there a Springfield Armory Hi Power also, but without the magazine disconnect?

The new FN Hi Power also intrigued me. However I think very few made it to Canada. As a lefty, I especially liked that it was ambidextrous.

Yes. Not sure if they ever made it up here.

RDSC had a Springfield P35 that sold quickly. They also had a couple of the new FN High Power that uses a more modern locking system using a wider square sig like barrel vs. the original slimmer lugs.

Saw the new FN. Was tempted but decided to pass on it in the end. Never saw the Springfield. Hopefully the new owners enjoy them.

I was a weapons tech back in the 60s and 70s. Issues with the pistol were not very common. A very reliable pistol for it's time. Move ahead 50 plus years of service and yes, they are worn out. Not a design fault, just aging. I have owned several and never had an issue. Am sadly now down to just one early production Inglis in beautiful condition. Guess I will own it till I die thanks to our dear leader.
