i recently found a nice 1892 WInchester in 25-20 with the 24" octogonal barrel.
Bluing is almost perfect,i thought it might have been refinished, but the lines on the barrel are perfectly crisp as are all the marking, but the biggest clue is the bore,it's nice and shinny, lots of riffling,no dark area, most of these almost always have dark bores,i'm trying to figure out approximate value for this thing, there doesn't seem to be that many in this great shape,

Yeah pics are best. If a high condition gun value would be pretty good. Small bore 1892's(25/20 and 32/20) bring less than the 44 WCF but high condition Winchesters hold their value and appreciate well. Most octagon barrel rifles that have been buffed and reblued stand out a mile away as the edges of the barrel flats will be rounded and barrel stampings smeared by over buffing. Very few can do a reblue properly on the old levers as a huge amount of handwork is involved as opposed to just hitting it on a buffing wheel.

The barrel might not be original to the rifle, could be an old build from the factory that was surplused out to some place like Numerich after manufacture of the 92's was discontinued, and sold many years later for that rifle. I have a barrel for a 95 Marlin that was man back around 1900 that has only been on my rifle for 5 yrs. It was full chambered & spun on to a perfect headspace right from the factory....they new how to build stuff back then.

i had it looked at by a Winchester collector friends, and it's all original, even the screws look to have never been touched.
