What is YOUR favorite hand gun?

That's a tough question, but I think I have to go with the Sig X5 Level 1(Gen1) I got from Harry C a few years back. I like it so much, I actually traded my nickel Python recently for a new X5 Supermatch, as last buy/trade before they shut us down. I figured another X5 was in order.

The X5 L1 is just so nice to shoot, and shoot well. Makes me look better then I am. The quality of the build is superb. Pictured is the X5 L1 and Gold Cup National Match.

My two favorits; High Standard Sharpshooter .22
Ruger GP100 4.2".

Both are accurate shooters. I have a couple C/F semi-autos and I like them too.

It is very challeging isn't it. I tend to fixate and obsess about one gun or another for periods of time and then all of a sudden they fall out of favour and get forgotten about while a differnt one gets its turn in the light. Kind of like with my kids... (JK).

You make it. You might be lucky to find an old box at a gun show. They havent made it commercially for quite a while. I used to make and reload 44 amp for a friend that had one, many years ago. Rcbs made the dies if i recall correcrly. It was made from cut down 308 (or similar) brass. It was a bit of a process. Cut, size, trim, ream. - dan

Agree. This one is the new favorite. Then sometimes I will "rediscover " an old favorite. And.... repeat. - dan

Yes it is cool for sure, but i'm a big fan of the Desert Eagle too. I lucked out and found a stash of older factory ammo, but I also have brass to start reloading when I need to. A company in the US started making ammo again now that the pistol is back in production but none of it is readily available in Canada

Well if you shoot 308 and re-use the cases there shouldn't be a problem. Assuming that you have all the other components. Its unfortunate that they didn't design it to shoot the rimmed .44mag kinda like the DE or the Coonan .357 1911.

Starline .44AMP brass was pretty easy to find when I was looking a couple of years ago. Not sure why the original designer didn’t choose .44 Mag—But the AMP is a cool round.

First pistol I bought some 25 years ago is still the favorite.
SIG P220 9mm. I was after a 226 for my first pistol, but Milarm had these NIB for under $600 wayyy back then. The single stack is only 9 rounds vs 10, but I ran it through my Black Badge course and shot some IPSC with it and it was great, the accuracy and ease of shooting this thing is still above everything else I have.

Yes 44 rem mag would sure be convenient. It seems some designs like the DE, Coonan and even LAR Grizzly, have really sorted out the issues with rimmed cartridges. On the other hand, I'm surprised more have not used the rimless 45 Win Mag which is more available than the 44 AMP. Apparently Automag may launch a version in 45 Win Mag, after the run of 357 AMP which is starting now.


The 45 Win mag has a pretty cool Canadian connection btw. It started off as a Canadian military prototype cartridge.

I have a Blackhawk convertible with an extra cylinder in 45 Win Mag. Recoil is about the same as the same gun in 44 mag as far as I can tell. But hey, it makes a bigger hole. - dan

Interesting I didn't know Ruger ever made a 45 win mag cylinder. Always learning new things. With a shorter barrel that Blackhawk would be a handy package in the back country, with the right paperwork or course. You'll probably remember in the 80s, North American Arm made a single action 450 Express, that came with a 45 win mag cylinder.

Right now my favorite handgun to shoot is my Beretta 92x Centurion. I have a real blast shooting this pistol. I find it very comfortable and I really enjoy the SA trigger, the DA is not so bad either. A very close second is my Sig p320RX with Wilson combat frame. I can run this pistol the fastest of all my guns but something about shooting that Beretta is just awesome.

My overall favorite gun that I own is my Smith and Wesson 1006. I don't shoot this gun often but it just really turns my crank. Its big, its heavy, its got 80's acton written all over it.


And for bonus points, my favorite pistol that I have owned (but no longer have) was my HK USP 45c. The one pistol that I truely regret selling.

After some thought, I've decided I really can't narrow it down to just one. One second, I think it might be my CZ75b, or possibly my open top revolver in 44 Colt, or maybe my Ruger Bisley in 41 magnum, or.... You get the idea
