Type 81 sr....

So you have the "possibility" to shoot past 300m, who has actually done it? No problem with a 308 bolt action rifle. Or is it just talk?

Not sure the context of this question?

Here on the prairies we shoot at distances further than you can see. I've hit a 55gal drum at 1500 yds and unsuccessfully tried to hit one at 2000 yds. I am currently putting together a shooting range out to 1 mile (1765 yds). I am lucky as I have access to private property but that isn't all that uncommon here on the prairies.

The 7.62x39 cartridge has an effective range of 500m. But I read online that with a match grade 110 grain bullet, and the casing full, you can push it further. The 7.62x54r is actually not a very good round, the recoil is about 2 x as much as the 7.62x39. That's why they developed the 308 round which can push even further than the 7.62x54r. When shooting a 308 in comparison to a 7.62x51, you feel the recoil increase. Take a 308, load it with 7.62x51 and a SKS to the range, you can see that you are usually done after 20 rounds of 7.62x51 but keep on shooting the SKS until you run out of ammo. There is not much demand for 7.62x54r even with so many Mosins around. 7.62x39 all day long.

I suspect that 500m effective range is with a bipod, belt, and auto sear. Effective range, for 5.56 from a rifle, as far as the CAF is concerned is 300m and the 5.56 can be pushed out to distance far more easily than the 7.62x39 in my experience.

Where are you even getting that 500m figure from?

seems nato troops that went under fire needed more than 300m of protection while shot on different areas in the world so the effectiness of the 7.62x39 is way more of what we can do with it ...

Well good for them they have more than just rifles. They have 5.56 LMGs that have an effective range of 600m and GPMGs which have an effective range of 800m from the bipod.

500m effective range with a 7.62x39 is a huge overestimate. That said, there us a debate to be had as to what 'effective range' even means, but I digress.

Oi… here we go again.

7.62x39 is only usable within 400m max. It drops like a rock past 300m. You’ll have to hold-over 10ft at 500m and the best you’ll get it a ~15-20” group. Guys getting all horny about hitting anything past 400m “effectively” with this rifle are dreaming.

look up the ballistic of the scope and it is doable ...

20" will hit my torso plate... or a 24" gong which many clubs have. POW! 2 seconds later.. Ding nothing wrong with that. Good fun.

Effective range is the range at which a decent marksman can aim at and hit a target. Spraying or lobbing rounds into an area in the hopes of maybe impacting a target is not the effective range. WWI LE rifles have ladder sights that go up to 1700 yds. No marksman on the planet would have a hope in hell of hitting an aimed target at that kind of range with iron sights. The effective range of a 303 is not 1700 yds regardless that the rifles had sights that went out to that range.

The concept of a 7.62x39 dmr is comical. If you want the mini svd look that’s fine. But please be realistic with your expectations. This will be a t81 but heavier. If the style suits you. Fill your boots.

I feel like the much more comfortable looking stock alone will be worth getting the sr. The length of pull on the standard version is far to short for me.

“DMR” and “Sniper” are just marketing terms used for civilian firearms sales anyways…

But I get it… everyone needs to pump-up what they like and rationalize their purchases to other bros… because “My T81 is best not-AK”
