I've used a lot of Winchester and Federal small rifle primers to load 9mm ammo. The ammo runs just fine in my Glock 17. Has anyone tried using Cam Pro small rife primers to load 9mm? Any issues?

I only use small rifle, I haven't use a SP primer in years. There are some that are too thick and/or hard to be reliable. Otherwise it's completely safe assuming you are performing some reasonably diligent load development.

Pretty much don't just swap primers in a balls-out max pressure load and you will be fine. 9mm is almost impossible to read pressure signs off of so a chronograph could be a benefit if you are doing anything wild.

You'd be fine swapping in rifle primers in a max pressure load, just not the other way around. Only issue would be ignition with the thicker cup. If that goes ok, yer' good.

Edit: Unless you meant that it would be even harder to see pressure signs given that a rifle primer won't deform as easily as a pistol primer, leading to a potentially unsafe load before they actually do start showing overpressure signs... Then yeah, maybe. lol.

Some small rifle primers are absolutely much more energetic than pistol primers. I don't foresee any drastic incidents but extra pressure for no reason is not ideal. With some guns in some scenarios this could lead to bad stuff.

Most often it will just be light strikes you need to fight with. With that said I have had good luck using every SR primer I have tried that didn't have a .025" cup. Even then 80-90% went off first try.

Thanks for the quality replies. I can always count on CGNers. I managed to pick-up a brick for $9 per hundred at the local shooting range. Very generous when you consider that prices are typically double that these days, if you can find them.

I have about half a brick of S&B "Small" primers; the labeling states for Rifle and Pistol. They work fine. So do their large rifle ones in .45 ACP.

Redmaple. If you had your location on profile, I might be able to tell you of a local dealer selling small pistol primers for $67/1000.

Note: Dealer is now sold out....
