Flip-Flop recoil pad

I’m interested in this as I have a Limbsaver recoil pad for my Remington 700 Classic 3006 but I don’t want to cut my wood stock and the current factory recoil pad is like a hockey puck . I guess I could trim down the Limbsaver pad but not sure it will take well to being cut ?

It weighs less than half of the usual pads. That’s one of the reasons it’s used on featherweight hunting rifles, and on some target and bench rest rifles to qualify for a particular weight class.

Very easy to replace whenever you care to, but most importantly it reduces recoil at least as well as the fifty dollar ones.

I put a flip flop on a 44 mag lever gun and it works fine for recoil but if you store the gun upright in a gun safe the flip flop/recoil pad squashes down and doesn't recover for a few hours.

The trick to solve this is to use the cheapest flip flops you can find. Took me a while to figure out, but that’s the answer.

The black floor padding doesn't look half bad either. You can contour it how ever you want too. The only real drawback is that it deforms from sitting in the rack. This is just a reminder to get out and shoot more and don't leave the rifle in the rack! The pad is not as durable as a Decelerator but the ones cut out of floor padding cost nearly nothing.

As I had mentioned before, instead of flipflops, I use the foam flooring. It stands up well, is available in different colours, and is cheap. I have noticed that a piece left out in the weather will degrade from UV radiation. In use on the rifle though, I have seen no deterioration over eight years. Just don't leave the rifle lying out in the weather for a year. To be fair, I'm not sure how well a decelerator would stand up if I left it on the shooting bench for a year either.

I was just looking at an old shotgun thinking... what am I going to do with this??? well now I know

its getting some foam floor mat, I have a faded red and yellow to choose from

I also have some black rubber stair tread that is more dense that might work out

My limbsavers seem to deteriorate in the safe, no weather required.

Never thought of the floor pads. I have a couple synthetic stocks that need pads, think I'll go dig through the scraps pile and see what's there. - dan

I have a few limbsaver pads in my “collection” and none of them are going bad… yet! Some have been on rifles for 20+ years

So I went and bought a pair of size 12 black flip flop for $5.25 all in, prep them so I could glue them face to face to make a nice thick pad! Ground off the “threads” on one of them to glue onto the stock. I have enough for an other pad!
Anyway here is some pictures of my process! It is going on a 303 improved made on a Globe no1 mkIII!
