Looking for feedback on the Benelli SBE3.
Pros and Cons what are your thoughts.
It sure feels nice in the store but how do they shoot?
Thx

I've had my SBE3 for over 2 years. Initially, I adjusted the comb height following manufacture's instructions and then shot a few rounds of trap until I got the POI that works for me. It functions flawlessly.

This is what I'm hearing from the gun counter sales guys as well...would you buy the same gun again?

thx

I had one, loved the feeling of it, but I just couldn't get over how high the thing shot. Even after shimming it. I could have lived with a 70/30 pattern, but it never even came close. At 20 yards my pattern centered 18 inch's high above point of aim with a full choke and was always left a few inches.

Shooting slugs at 50 yards I have a nice tight group 15 inchs high and 8 inchs left.

My gun was a total dud. Others I have hunted with love theirs. Thier's also shoot high, but not as bad as mine did.

Is this shooting high something that can be adjusted out with changing stock shim to add more drop to comb and heel?

When I shouldered the guns naturally, I was looking parallel to the rib, which is what I prefer in a shotgun. My SBE2 shot where I was looking, in that position. In order to not shoot high, I had to drop my head to where I couldn't see anything but the back of the rib, and none of the bead. Not that I aim using the bead, but I have never seen a shotgun that I had to adjust, so I couldn't see any of the bead, if I looked for it.

Same results here. Brand new SBE3 out of the box shot waaay high. Added more drop to the stock and it helped. Glad it wasn't my gun, I still wouldn't be happy. Not with that 2500+ price tag.

So at the pattern board these gun shoot high pattern test standards is 40 yds
My benelli ethos and sx4 shoot high yet when the sharp tail Huns and pheasant rise I hit them sometimes I get doubles and even the odd triple on waterfowl I have never seen these birds flying in a down ward motion . I have shot regulation trap and skeet with these guns and break good scores with them .
So what everyone is saying is they can’t hit bird’s because these guns shoot high

My use for this gun would be 95+% waterfowl hunting, mostly pass shooting by water and a bit over decoys.

We shoot our waterfowl in fields over decoys, when they are landing into the field, they definitely are flying in a downward motion. And the SBE3 didn't shoot a little high, it shot a lot high.

How old were the SBE3's that shot very high?

Unfortunately, unless you use the beads as sights when wingshooting, which is a good way to miss, a taller bead will change nothing. The issue from what I can see, is the rib geometry, and that is not easily fixed. Seeing as how there was no issue with the SBE2, I really don't understand how Benelli made such a screw up, with the SBE3.

The 2 guns I'm looking at is the SBE3 and the Beretta A400...I like the feel of the SBE3 better though

What do you think of the A400?

A couple of my duck/goose hunting Buddies have A400's and they are happy. Benelli's are a little more costly but , I think in the long run, Benelli's are the way to go. I got mine with a camo finish that gives it a bit of pizzazz.

A friend of mine was a dyed in the wool Benelli shooter started with the original H&K Black Eagle, then the Benelli SBE then SBE2. When he looked into going to the SBE3 he did not like the way they shot so high and went to an A400. He thinks the A400 is the best autoloader he has ever owned. My wife shoots an A400 and it is a very nice gun but I do not think it is any better in terms of reliability or function than my SX3. It just looks prettier, lol. Maybe just a coincidence but most of my friends who were Benelli shooters for years have moved back to gas autoloaders. My own personal preference of the Black Eagle series of guns from those I've shot and been privy to having friends hunting with them for years is the original H&K Black Eagle. I'd own one of those if I could find a good one at a decent price.
