CZ Bren2 Owner: Info, Pics, Mods

Thanks for the info.

Can I ask, does the 14 have a thick barrel like the 16? Or is it a thinner barrel like the 11?

It has the thin profile. Shoots consistent 2 MOA groups hot or cold, all day long with PMC XTAC 55 gr ammo. The Bren 2 barrels are Cold-Hammer Forged and properly Heat-Treated to prevent "wandering" as the barrel heats and cools, so there is no need for a thicker, heavier barrel on the service rifle where weight is a primary consideration.

Thank you, that was my main concern. Feeling more comfortable with an 11 inch barrel now.

Does anyone know, if you purchase a restricted rifle like the bren 2, does the transfer go into the same que as all the handgun transfers? Will it be the same 4 + month wait?

I don't know the answer to that, but I can tell you that I bought a Bren2 in mid-July and I'm still waiting for it to be approved, four months later...

I think so but I bought mine just under a month ago, waited a couple of weeks and called the bc cfo and they put my transfer through. I’m picking mine up tonight at the post office.

If you’re planning on waiting the 4 months for it to go through you might want to consider waiting for the 18” nr versions to be released. It may be around the same time. If you email marstar I believe they are still taking pre orders.

If you can afford it, get a Type 81 LMG, Templar or Siberian( if it releases on schedule and is any good) to shoot now and an NR Bren 2 in the spring.

When you have an hour to kill just keep power calling until you get through. I think it took me me about 5-10x. Now that the handgun dead line is over it’s a little quicker.

In lieu of making my own thread, I was wondering if I could pick through the brains of CZ Bren 2 owners here as a new shooter wanting to get one of these beautiful rifles. So far, I've been living vicariously through the pics on this thread haha

With the NRs of the 5.56 still not available til Spring 2023, am I good to pick up the 16.5" Restricted if I can find one?
I went to a couple of gun stores to ask about which one would be good and they seemed to recommend the NRs when they come in because the "restricted could turn into paperweight with one signing of a pen"

This just confuses me a little bit because if that does happen, it wouldn't just be the Restricteds that would be affected right?
Is there a benefit to getting the NR over the R simply to not be 'as impacted' by legislative whims? Are there any advantages of getting the NR over the R if I'm mainly a range shooter?

The 16.5" looks like it's the right length for me without looking comically disproportionate (like a kid wearing his dad's suit)

Some will try to tell you that only a Non-Restricted Bren 2 is worth owning because it is supposedly somehow immune to government over-reach. The fact of the matter however is that if the Liberals ban the Bren 2, then that will impact all variants - both NR and Restricted. If you think that you can safely traipse through the woods with an illegal rifle and not a care in the world, you really need to think again. Get caught with it and it is game over. You had best dwell on the dark side of the Moon if you are going to bet your freedom on not running into anyone knowledgeable while in illegal possession....

That's what I was thinking! If a ban comes for the Bren 2, the 18" NR variant wouldn't be safe because it will encompass "Bren 2" entirely.
It wouldn't just be the restricted variants that turn into a paperweight

Considering the SKS tends to be brought up in discussions regarding bans, NR vs R doesn't really make something immune

I am in same boat as you in that I pretty much only shoot at the range I would have preferred the 14” but couldn’t find one so I went with the 11”. I just received it and have yet to actually shoot it but hopefully it fulfills my ar void. One of the reasons I chose 11 was that I may still decide to get a longer length later on and would probably choose the nr if they were available at that time. Rather than having 2 restricted Brens. Scary thing is in my opinion if they ban 1 size they’ll ban them all and that’s a lot of more $ sitting in my safe going to waste while I’m getting older. Keep in mind that if you do get a restricted now and wait for the transfer to be put through it could possibly be around the same time the nr is available. Then again if the 16 is what you want and you’re not going anywhere else but the range then it’s probably perfect for you.

If I were in your shoes (ah, to be young(er) again!), I'd jump on the 16.5" Restricted Bren 2 right now. Bother your CFO about the transfer and shepherd it through the system as best you can. If you mostly shoot on a range, then the Restricted thing is largely irrelevant aside from the travel "safe storage" requirements. No big deal. The 16.5" is a nice looking rifle and will undboubtedly perform well with its increased velocity and range over my 14" Bren 2. The longer you delay, hte longer you will have to wait for your Registration Transfer....

Noted! I'm definitely going to start the search and get one ASAP
