The Valmet

Someone call sako. There’s money for them to take. Valmets in every house

Been over this so many times over the years (Beretta owns the brand) - they don't care about our tiny market, they refuse to sell the Valmet brand and the original machinery has been sold to Israel a long time ago (that's where Galils came from)

But they are only exempted from being banned by name, they could still be banned by function being a semi auto centerfire with a detachable magazine that can hold more than 5 (even if pinned)

They could even circle around and remove the exemption if we draw too much attention to this - I think there was a lot of copy-pasting by an intern somewhere... So maybe we should just zip it and not look a gift horse in the mouth.

well we see if they re going with a list of firearms like the list published or the technicality you re saying or both ...

Clearly they made the effort excepting out the Valmet Hunter, Hunter Auto and M78 because of their supply to indigenous communities in the North. They're unlikely to back away from that just because you noticed it.

Seems like they just copy/pasted the part that lists all the banned AK variants and exempts the 2 Valmet models. They probably figured that AK's were already "dealt with" in C68 almost 30 years ago, so there was no need to amend that list.

I wonder if that exemption would override the "semi with detachable magazine" prohibition.

probably not, because they are on 2 different lines which means it has to be considered by 2 different criteria.

(g) ban by definition
(i) ban by name (valmet exempted by being not a named firearm)

Otherwise full auto Valmets would be legal by that reasoning if you consider it only being exempted by name in our current regulations.
