PAL Wait Time

So do they print these in one centralize location (CFP, Mirimichi) or are these printed at each respective provincial CFO office?

I'm not sure. I did send a note to the Ab government and complained but I think the printing is in Miramichi. No response from the Gov't yet on the printing issue. There slow walking all of the applications in hopes you don't get one. Plain and simple.

Mine was approved on Nov. 8/22. I still don't have it. Called the Alberta CFO on the 24th and was told they only print a couple times a week. And, get this, the printer is broken. I offered to buy a new one for them from Staples and send it directly to them. Apparently that wasn't funny. Anyway, I'm still waiting. I believe they are holding it up until a total ban on long guns is passed then they'll tell me to F off.

I'd love to hear what the reaction was.

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to create an account post an update as I have been skimming through this thread for a few hours and listened to all of your advise. I will encourage everyone to attempt this as well, and not get as agitated as me throughout this process. We are dealing with the Canadian government, you shouldn't expect much of anything lol. I did have a run-in with the law in February (non-violent), but I was not convicted of a crime under the criminal code (if anyone has a similar experience it shouldn't affect your application).

I am in Ontario by the way. Submitting a brand new RPAL application, this will be my first license.

I completed the courses early this year (Feb 2022)
Submitted my application around May 30th
Received status says June 20th
My credit card was charged Sept 9th

No change since then. I decided to email the CFO for Ontario this message:

Hello,

I am enquiring on an application I have completed many months back. I have contacted the RCMP CFP and they have advised me that my application has been sent to you. My application has been received as of June 20th and my credit card charged as of September 9th. I have noticed others have received their PAL before me though their applications were submitted after.

Are there any flags on my application or mistakes I made that have not been rectified yet? Any questions that you need me to answer?

My information is below:
NAME
ADDRESS

BIRTH CITY

EMAIL
PHONE NUMBER

Thank you for all the help!
NAME

They emailed back about 15 minutes later stating my application is approved and I should receive my card in the mail within 10-15 days. I will note, I had /mvc not /kam.

I am not sure why there are rampant delays that are rectified with a small email, but I hope everyone can have their applications approved after sending a quick email.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to purchase a handgun at this point, but hopefully I can get my hands on a few semi-automatic firearms before my fishing trip. I will be spending quite a bit of money on these firearms so I am hoping I can remain stable and my boat doesn't flip, causing all of my newly acquired firearms to end up in the bottom of the lake.

Merry Christmas!

Tried that a couple of times, but just get canned response either from /kam or /kp .....

I am still waiting for my physical card, but was able to call and get my license number and expiry date. Got some purchases going at least.

I had my PAL application received by the RCMP on Oct 28th in the morning. The Individiual Web Services still isn't even showing it

How did you know the RCMP received it? Did you call them?

When I spoke with them, they said that the web services are immediately updated once they receive the application.

Lies! All Lies!!!!! :)

The poster probably confirmed RCMP received the same way I did - sent application in the mail/courier with a tracking mechanism like tracking number, etc. I sent by overnight fedex so I knew when they received it. Of course they didn't open it for a month and a half. But once they opened it, they backdated it to when the original receipt was, so clearly they track when it was received, not opened. Once they open it (I guess their version of received), that's when IWS is updated even though the date will be back dated with actual mail/courier receipt date. If you sent by trackable method you will see that the date they backdate will match your records. They also seem to have charged my credit card the same day IWS was updated (which is the date they opened my application envelope).

Thanks @TheGazelle.

I emailed the CFO 3 weeks ago and haven't received a response.

I did get someone on the phone last week and they said that the delay is ~2.5 months from when they receive the application to when it gets entered into the system. I am still in that range so I will need to sit tight.

With Christmas approaching I have a feeling that the process will grind to a halt from Med-December to Mid-January. So much for a cool gift from Santa. :(

Well ya never know...for an NR, once your approval is done, your IWS profile will show your number and stuff - you can order NR rifles and shotguns online in time for Christmas...don't lose hope my friend.

Now, getting the physical card...that's another story - apparently the CFP has some printer issues...

how do you even got a hold of these guys? I called the 1-800-731-4000 and went to the general inquiries line and they just hang up on me. so I tried extension 7503 for Ontario and they still wont pick up, won't even put you on hold. my license was issued on the 11th of this month. so I'm wondering if they even printed it or if I can call them and get my pal number and expiry date so I can at least buy something .

edit: NVM i was able to finally get through, and get my pal # and expiry date.

It seems like the way to go is to email them...that seems to always solicit a response. For Ontario it's CFOON@cfp-pcaf.ca

I am waiting for my upgraded Restricted card as well. Others have reported CFP currently have printer issues.

Would be interested to hear if anyone have received their new license card in the mail this week or going forward. That will be harbinger that the CFP's printer issues have been fixed. Or they may just wait till the new year to expense a new printer, who knows...

I just called them today about my licence. It hasn't been printed yet, but he said I should have it next week. I'm in Ontario.

Can somebody please help me with draft for letter to MP for involvement in my application process ?

App. Recieved -apr 8 , 2022
Cc charged- july 8, 2022
Mailed the cfo and they said we can't give you an estimated date. Not picking up by call. Im going out of country for a month and want them to call me for inquiry before i go out. Its frustating.
