How you liking your panic buy Tokarevs?

So how do you like them? Mine is a Chinese T-33, I had pretty low expectations given the cheap price point. It showed up in very nice condition, has a nice trigger, I like the sights, it was very fun at the range, and performed well. All in all I am very happy, should have bought 2 when Tenda had the big sale.

On the down side the firing pin ate through the little pin that keeps it captive with just a bit of dry firing. Not a big deal I just replaced it with a solid pin I made from the shaft of a rivet. Check yours for damage.

Absolutely loving mine, I got one from tenda and traded a 22 for another, I’m keeping one soaked in oil in the safe and shooting the other, mine was surprisingly accurate out of the box, it barks loud and bit me the first time out, all in all I’m in love

Still waiting for mine, good to hear the Chinese ones are good. I bought a 9mm kit that cost more than the gun lol

I got one in a package that I bought. I havent fired this one yet, but I have others. With surplus ammo they’re a blast at the range. Nice big fireballs. God only knows where and how far the casings will fly so pick your stall accordingly.

Also for the Russian ones at least, the firing pins and dry firing don’t mix. If you must, find a snap cap or something.

I picked up a Type 54 as well with a 9mm conversion kit. But I was a bit annoyed to see that the packaging was open by either the store or supplier for the Type 54 to remove the extra mag.

I’ve had 2 Tt-33’s for some years, one is a wartime (1944) and the other is post war and they are both surprisingly accurate and very fun pistols to shoot.

I started looking at the Tokarev about 15 plus years ago. Year after year, I always end up buying something else over this "ugly" firearm as they were so inexpensive back then so I thought it couldn't possibly be that good. Fast forward to 2022, the Liberal party encouraged me to pick up more than one. I absolutely love them. They are reliable, shoots cheap ammo and so easy to clean. Thanks JT

I think you are going to be impressed if it is anything like mine, it looked virtually untouched. A lot nicer gun then I imagined when I was typing my credit card # in.

Yes the brass is launched LOL. The cartridge looks pretty meek till you pull the trigger. I laugh at the roller chain spring clip they use on the take down pin, overthinking it was not an issue on that day of design.

Everyone said the grip angle was weird and they were right, but it doesn’t seem hard to keep on target, and the more I handle it the more I like it. Thanks to all the dealers that brought these in, they were a very good fit for the time and place.

Got a couple of Poles a while back. One 7.62, the other .22 (have a handful of adapters). When I got the as-new police surplus 7.62, I also got a crate of ammunition. It is a good shooter, BUT it bites the web of my thumb. Need adapt some sort of backstrap/beavertail.

I've owned a great many tokarevs over the years and always had fun shooting them, they are way underrated by people lookig for every handgun to work like a modern glock. I had an unissued matching post-war Tula I gifted to my father when the madness started so he'd have something. The chinese tok replacement I ordered the next day is still in Ontario CFO hell, so no idea if the one that shows up will be decent or trash. The last time I bought a chinese military one, I looked through several for a nice one - all were functional but some had been sanded pretty bad at refurb and had that melted look. Fingers crossed the random panic buy replacement looks and shoots OK?

I bought two Chinese “Toks” before the ban, I was pleasantly surprised that they both looked new/unfired. I haven’t had a chance to shoot them yet… too cold outside and my indoor range does not allow them. I also have a 1943 Russian Tok, should be interesting to see which one shoots the best.

Picked up a Type 54 from SFRC in early June and received it about a month and a half ago, finally had it out to the range last week. The finish on mine leaves something to be desired with some pitting on the exterior of the slide and frame, but the barrel and guts of the pistol are solid. Shoots well enough for me to enjoy it, it's obnoxiously loud and throws spent casings 20+ feet away from me, I love it. From the first shot I was grinning ear to ear.

Only regret is waiting so long to buy one of them, would have liked a Russian but the price point on the Chinese was excellent.

Wish I had of seen the 2 for 1 deal at Tenda though, my cabinet still has room...

chinese is usually better in these - the chromed line bore helps with the cheap surplus that's about.

Yes that Tenda deal was the bomb. Mine came from Bullseye North at nearly double the price but no regrets at all. I can’t get my image hosting site to work with CGN or I would plaster this thread with pictures.

I was at the range in the summer, and some guy caught my attention shooting something with a larger bang then usual. It was a Tokarev. He said out of his 52 handguns, he will be selling everything but his favorite 12 handguns, and this Tokarev he’s keeping. Latter that night, I bought a Romanian tt33 from marstar. I received it this week, and first thing I tried to do was rack it. The extractor arm falls out. Lol , it was missing the pin and spring to hold the arm in. Anyway, I cleaned it up, re-lubbed everything, and it looks really good. I got the barrel mostly cleaned up. It looked pitted and dirty, and I’ll give it a few more rounds of bore cleaner and brushing to get it okay. If marstar doesn’t get back to me or have parts that I can at least buy, there’s plenty on eBay.
