How you liking your panic buy Tokarevs?

I had an M57 that I sold before the SHTF. It was fun and loud and snappy to shoot. Mediocre accuracy, and not eligible for any formal competition. I don't miss mine at all.

I was at the range in the summer, and some guy caught my attention shooting something with a larger bang then usual. It was a Tokarev. He said out of his 52 handguns, he will be selling everything but his favorite 12 handguns, and this Tokarev he’s keeping. Latter that night, I bought a Romanian tt33 from marstar. I received it this week, and first thing I tried to do was rack it. The extractor arm falls out. Lol , it was missing the pin and spring to hold the arm in. Anyway, I cleaned it up, re-lubbed everything, and it looks really good. I got the barrel mostly cleaned up. It looked pitted and dirty, and I’ll give it a few more rounds of bore cleaner and brushing to get it okay. If marstar doesn’t get back to me or have parts that I can at least buy, there’s plenty on eBay.

I'd be on the phone to marstar. They should not have sold you a gun with missing parts, and they should make it right.

I'm shocked the bore is badly pitted as well. Usually tokarev barrels are in nice shape. One good reason to buy the Chinese ones with chromed bores... Or at least that was a good idea back when we could still buy handguns. Maybe you can get a replacement barrel also.

Owned two Russians for a few years, During the panic I bought a Yugo and a Chinese, Super impressed with the quality of both, Both were brand new never shot, The Yugo is a little ahead of the Chinese in fit and finish but not by much. Was hoping to get a Romanian and Polish too but missed the boat.

Got rid of the mag safety on the Yugo right away, and swapped the trigger spring with a Russian one since it was such a heavy pull

and for #### and giggles I put some rare Russian grips on the Chinese one.

I got a reply back from marstar, and I’ll have to reach out to northsylva for warranty. I sent in pics of my barrel, and they are willing to have their gunsmith check it out.

When I see pics of other Tt”s , my romainion doesn’t look as good of some peoples russian ones, but it’s better then some. I”d say mine is average condition. Couple scratches around the takedown clip. Some blueing wear on the grip. Rest of the frame and slide are pretty good..

The bottom left gun in the first picture, do those grips help improve the grip angle? The Tok is kinda square.

The entire grip angle has been changed actually. Along with the back of the frame/slide,hammer and sights, and obviously grips. I believe it was one of 4 custom Tok's that came into Canada from who knows where! Its extremely comfortable, and blows the regular Tokarev grip out of the water.

Just received my 9x19 conversion for my Type 54 from L**** A***. Mags fit better than the original. The barrel seems a bit thin, has anyone used one of these barrels for any considerable time? If so how many rounds do you have through it and how has the barrel stood up? Should I consider reloading some lighter loads (just enough to cycle) for it? I am looking forward to being able to shoot this at my indoor range.

I've got a P-10 in 10mm coming. Cannot wait. I'm in Ontario so it is a long wait. I probably won't get it until Feb/March 2023.

They look very good on the gun.

I ran out of funds before I could get a tokagypt 58 (hungarian?)to complete the collection.
Have Romanian,Russian,Polish,Chinese and Yugoslave Zastava M57 as well as M70a.
Would like to find a .38 super conversion also to go along with the 9mm for the type 54-hope one day to get more type 54's to have tok,9mm and .38super all complete.
not sure what I might be missing still except 213,np17?

I received another barrel from north Silva for my Romanian. It looks so much better then the rusty pitted one I first got. I”m still missing the extractor pin and spring so I’ll reach out again to North Silva or marstar tomorrow. I’ll see if I can figure out how to post pics.

Love my Russian 1945 Tokarev. Shoots great, accurate, and with the additional brake, I don't find it snappy at all. This one has (M.O./52) stamp beside the date.

how do the Romanian ones fare????

Romanian guns in general (be it SKS's, Mosing, Tokarevs, etc.) tend to be similar in quality to Soviet stuff, but usually a little less well made. Any particular gun will very based on the condition it's presently in.

For consistency, when it comes to Tokarevs, the Yugo and chinese ones are often in better condition on average and as as well made as any of the various models.

Weird that NS sent you a barrel and not the other parts. They defintiely would have been stuck with some parts guns when the freeze came in, and these aren't re-exportable to the US without significant re-work (like adding a safey). Likely they've broken some down into parts for warranty work.

Personally, I'd like to see them sell some as parts kits with a cut or missing frame. I have a spare registered frame here that would be fun to build up.

I picked up a Romanian TT33 from Rangeview Sports. The blueing is almost gone. Lots of holster wear. I'd love to find out the history on this one. The barrel serial number doesn't match. Which is probably a good thing. The barrel they put it looks brand new. I love shooting it. Very comfortable, excellent trigger. It has a lot in common with the 1911s-ish. I had a hard time racking the slide. I found some metal mashed up inside the slide. I filed that smooth again and now I can rack it no problem. I've shot 150 rounds through it so far, 100% reliable. Accuracy is good enough. I can clean the plate rack. Might bring it out to steel challenge just for fun.
