F-d over by FOC incompetence

This one got derailed. I’d be pissed if it happened to me, but at this point there’s nothing anyone can do to make both parties happy.

I just hope it doesn’t happen to me. Or anyone else moving forward.

I think they would possibly be happier or at least ok if they offered them a % refund on the .22

From the sounds of it the %20 off future purchases or a full refund and no pistol doesn't exactly cut it. They got screwed on the first purchase I don't think they want to give them more business

I own a manufacturing business and If we made a mistake producing your order, the first offer would be a % discount/refund on the wrong product you recieved. Not a discount off your next order, as most of our online sales are one time customers. I could be wrong but in this situtaion a partial refund on the .22 would be my choice, and from what I read I didn't see that option given to them.

Maybe it’s time you understand that hacking does not happen at the store end but downstream, at the internet provider, at the third party processing the transaction. Finding the leak is not an easy thing. Hacker are smart. FOC is not involved unless they are IT specialist themselves.

I am an IT specialist with decades of experience on web transactions and internet security, let me explain what happened.

Based on FOC’s statement their website was compromised and a skimmer package was planted. That package recorded customer card details when an order was submitted and forwarded them to a third party. This is fully the responsibility of FOC regardless if they built it in house or contracted it out. I don’t know what platform or software they use for the site so I can’t get specific but I can say that this is increasingly common with sites that use extensible frameworks like Wordpress, Zencart or WooCommerce with vulnerable plugins. Just the same as you need to keep a PC updated it’s critical these web frameworks are maintained and published security problems are addressed.

Like other posters I’m not impressed with their response. Compromises like this happen, nothing is perfect and there are a lot of scumbags out there sniffing around. How you handle a security breach is everything and they did not do well as indeed they seem to not be handling the issue of this pistol screw up well.

Something weird is going on there. I purchased a NR last week and did not get any type of transfer notice. I have gotten them twice when purchasing online from other retailers since May xx ban.

You'd expect them to shut down the website but quite the opposite happened. They let it run didn't say anything for weeks, and screwed even more people over. The best part is I purchased AFTER their announcement and still had my card hacked. I didn't see that they were compromised at the time.

I have bought 9 pistols and 6 rifles from vary dealers since I got my PAL . FOC service is the worst. the only words I got from them is "unfortunately this is final sale, you may do it by yourself."

There were gun stores in Canada, specifically some CGN sponsors who said,
"We will have to take our time, we will have to be more diligent at a time when sales are astronomically high, and we want to be sure the future of your ownership of your purchase is paramount: please be patient."

FOC didn't follow that concept. That was a failure on FOC's part.

The OP is rightfully disturbed that FOC didn't take the " future of your ownership of your purchase is paramount " part into mind over making money and dumping stock to prevent being stuck with it. Unfortunately, a few other CGN sponsors made the same mistake.

I don't see the OP being happy because FOC catastrophically failed the moment they didn't do due diligence with the purchase.

I don't see FOC being happy because 1) they don't want to be stuck with the .22 even if it can go back as they can't re-sell it, and 2) FOC screwed themselves and they have to eat that sh!t sandwich they made.

They absolutely should have shut down CC transactions until they had the problem sorted. I’d also point out that this “announcement” was a post they made on the 11th page of somebody else’s thread. No sticky at the top of the sub forum, note on the website, email to customers or any of the other stuff they obviously should have done.

How sure are you that your card details were compromised at FOC? If that happened after they brought in this third party to lock everything down and monitor the site activity then that’s a huge issue.

if you've bought from FOC with your credit card, cancel it IMMEDIATELY..FOC seems to have the biggest credit card fraud than any dealer on CGN,
maybe you should have read all the negative comment about them before buying,

Just because you are old doesn’t mean you are wise.
Lots of old farts are a—holes and stupid.
Being around since 2000 means shlt

being a newbie doesnt mean good as well too ... do not pretend what you re not ... the reason as communauty to make it work is enjoying the same goal but having an antagonistic approach like you or johnlemon will never attrack sympathy here or in real life for that matter.
