This one got derailed. I’d be pissed if it happened to me, but at this point there’s nothing anyone can do to make both parties happy.
I just hope it doesn’t happen to me. Or anyone else moving forward.
Maybe it’s time you understand that hacking does not happen at the store end but downstream, at the internet provider, at the third party processing the transaction. Finding the leak is not an easy thing. Hacker are smart. FOC is not involved unless they are IT specialist themselves.
You'd expect them to shut down the website but quite the opposite happened. They let it run didn't say anything for weeks, and screwed even more people over. The best part is I purchased AFTER their announcement and still had my card hacked. I didn't see that they were compromised at the time.I am an IT specialist with decades of experience on web transactions and internet security, let me explain what happened.
Based on FOC’s statement their website was compromised and a skimmer package was planted. That package recorded customer card details when an order was submitted and forwarded them to a third party. This is fully the responsibility of FOC regardless if they built it in house or contracted it out. I don’t know what platform or software they use for the site so I can’t get specific but I can say that this is increasingly common with sites that use extensible frameworks like Wordpress, Zencart or WooCommerce with vulnerable plugins. Just the same as you need to keep a PC updated it’s critical these web frameworks are maintained and published security problems are addressed.
Like other posters I’m not impressed with their response. Compromises like this happen, nothing is perfect and there are a lot of scumbags out there sniffing around. How you handle a security breach is everything and they did not do well as indeed they seem to not be handling the issue of this pistol screw up well.
A transfer notice for a non restricted?

I worked at a gun shop for almost a decade and never once transfered the wrong gun to someone. Just saying.

Did you do 10,000 restricted transfers in less than 6 months?
