The top of the heap right now is the Vortex Razor Gen 3 1-10 but they are expensive. Same goes for the NF ATACR 1-8. Shooting to a max of 300m, both are probably overkill, depending on what size targets you're looking to shoot at and how important pid is to what you're doing. For "man size" targets, you can make do with a 1x red dot out to 300 if pid is of no consequence (ie shooting full size IPSC plates at the range). If you need to know what you're shooting at, then either a fixed 3x or 4x (with a red dot for close) or a 1-4 like the Steiner P4 becomes a much better proposition. If you want to have the capability of making more precise shots, you start needing more magnification, something like a Vortex Razor Gen 2 1-6 would probably be a good call.
