I load my 222's with Varget or 4064 with 50-55gr bullets, pretty full case but the accuracy is there. Don't need really fast powder for these, lots will work.

Stopped by my beetle guy too. He did a couple ravens, a badger and a bear from last year. I thought the similarities between the badger and bear were worth a picture.

I was recently gifted a shot out 788 /.222 that I'm having re-barrelled . Was over at Bob Jury's place yesterday afternoon getting measurements taken. I went with a 24" finished length and a 1-12 twist. Opinions? Someone was kind enough to have installed a Timney prior to me taking possession. The bore looked sad through the bore scope.I plan on using bullets between 50-55gr. Not sure if lighter bullets will jive in a 1-12 ?

That's a good choice. I shoot 40 gr bullets from 12T 222 barrels with good success. Its probably the best twist to run on a pure varmint rifle. You got lucky with that timney alright. The 788 is a great rifle. Especially with an upgraded trigger or trigger work. Youll enjoy it.

They are heavy things, it's true. Only time I used to take mine afield was back when we would put a picnic table in the back of the truck to shoot from, sort of a mobile bench. - dan

Saw some pics of a flatbed trailer some guys made for prairie dogs. They put 2x6 for edging to keep fired brass unlost and two swivel shooting benches with rests towed by truck.
